Create a new publication based on a predesigned one

  1. Start Microsoft Office Publisher 2007, and then click one of the publication types in the Publication Types list. For example, click Newsletters.
  2. In the Newsletters catalog, click the design that you want, choose any other options that you want, such as a color scheme or a business information set, and then click Create.

Create a business information set

  1. Open a publication, and on the Edit menu, click Business Information.
  2. In the Business Information dialog box, click New.
  3. In the Create New Business Information Set dialog box, type text in each of the boxes.
  4. To add a logo, click Add and then browse to locate your logo image.
  5. Type a name for the business information set, click Save, and then click Update Publication in the Business Information dialog box.

Change color and font schemes

  • Change the color scheme   In the Format Publication task pane, click Color Schemes. Under Apply a color scheme, choose the color scheme that you want.
  • Change the font scheme   In the Format Publication task pane, click Font Schemes. Under Apply a font scheme, choose the font scheme that you want.

Create a text box and type text in it

  1. Click the Text Box tool on the Objects toolbar. (By default, when you open Publisher, the Objects toolbar extends vertically along the left side of the Publisher window.)
  2. Drag to create a rectangle on the page.
  3. Type your text in the resulting text box (surrounded by round handles).

Divide a text box into columns

  1. Click the text box to select it.
  2. On the Format menu, click Text Box, click the Text Box tab, and then click the Columns button.
  3. Enter the number of columns you want and the spacing you want between columns, and then click OK in each dialog box.

Modify a text box

  • Move a text box   Position the pointer over the text box boundary. When the pointer becomes a four-headed arrow Move pointer, click and drag.
  • Resize a text box   Click the text box and position the pointer over one of the round handles. When the pointer becomes a two-headed arrow Two-headed arrow pointer, click and drag.
  • Rotate a text box and the text in it   Click the text box and position the pointer over the green rotation handle. When the pointer becomes a circle Rotation circle pointer, click and drag in the direction you want the text to rotate.

Add a border and a colored background to a text box

  1. Click the text box that you want to alter.
  2. On the Format menu, click Text Box, and then click the Colors and Lines tab.
  3. To add a border, under Presets, click the middle button. Under Line, choose the color, weight, and other options that you want, and then click OK.
  4. To add a background, under Fill, choose a color that you like from the Color drop-down list, set the amount of transparency that you want, and then click OK.

Link two text boxes

  1. Click in the text box that you want as the first text box in the story.
  2. On the Connect Text Boxes toolbar, click Create Text Box Link Button image.

    The mouse pointer changes to a pitcher Mouse pointer.

  3. Click in the text box that you want as the next one in the story.

Add a continued notice

  1. Right-click a linked text box, click Format Text Box, and then click the Text Box tab.
  2. Under Text autofitting, select the check box for the Continued notice that you want to add, and then click OK.

Add a drop cap

  1. Click the text that you want to add a drop cap to.
  2. On the Format menu, click Drop Cap.
  3. In the Drop Cap dialog box, on the Drop Cap tab, scroll through the options, select one, and preview it on the right. When you find one that you like, click OK.

Format text

  • Change font style and color, and apply effects   Select the text, and on the Format menu, click Font. Choose the options that you want, and then click OK.
  • Adjust tracking   Select the text, and on the Format menu, click Character Spacing. Under Tracking, choose the options that you want, click Apply to preview the effect, and then click OK when you find the setting that you like.
  • Fine-tune the kerning between pairs of characters   Select the characters that you want to adjust, and on the Format menu, click Character Spacing. Under Kerning, choose the options that you want, click Apply to preview the effect, and then click OK when you find the setting that you like.
  • Alter the line spacing in a paragraph   Click the paragraph that you want to change, and on the Format menu, click Paragraph. Under Line spacing, for Between lines enter the amount of space that you want, and then click OK.

Add a picture from clip art

  1. On the Objects toolbar (along the left side of the window), click the Picture Frame tool Button image, and then click Clip Art.
  2. In the Clip Art task pane, in the Search for box, type a keyword that represents the subject of the picture that you want to find, such as fruit basket, and then click Go.
  3. Click the image that you like, and it will be added to the page as a new picture.

Replace a picture with clip art

  1. Right-click the picture, point to Change Picture, and then click Clip Art.
  2. In the Clip Art task pane on the left side of the window, in the Search for box, type a keyword that represents the subject of the picture that you want to find, such as banana, and then click Go.
  3. Click the image that you like, and it will be added to the page as a new picture.

Modify a picture

  • Move a picture   Select the picture and drag it to a new location.
  • Resize a picture and maintain the original proportions   Select the picture, press SHIFT, and then drag a corner handle.
  • Crop a picture to eliminate unwanted portions   Select the picture. On the Picture toolbar, click the Crop tool Button image. Position the tool over a black cropping handle, and then drag.
  • Add a border to a picture frame   Select the picture. On the Format menu, click Picture. On the Colors and Lines tab, under Fill, select the fill color, set the amount of transparency that you want, and then click OK.

Control how text flows around a picture

  1. Select the picture.
  2. On the Picture toolbar, select the Text Wrapping tool Button image, and then click the text wrapping option that you want.
