Tips

  • To keep your presentations fresh, you can download additional themes from Microsoft® Office Online. On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click the More button, and then click More Themes on Microsoft Office Online.
  • Many projectors show dark backgrounds and light text better than they show light backgrounds and dark text. You can use the background styles as a quick way to transform your presentation for better projection.
  • If you think you've done too much customizing, you can always restore your slides to the default settings by right-clicking the slide and then clicking Reset Slide.
  • To customize the way the fill, gradient, texture, or picture is used for the slide background, click Format Background under the Background Styles thumbnails, and then in the dialog box, make the changes that you want.

Select multiple slides

Sequential slides

  • Click the first slide, and then press and hold SHIFT while you click the last slide that you want to select.

Nonsequential slides

  • Press and hold CTRL while you click each slide that you want to select.

Use themes to change the look of your presentation

Switch to a different theme

  • On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click a thumbnail in the gallery on the Ribbon, or click the More button Button image to the right of the theme thumbnails to see all of the theme choices.

Change theme colors

  • On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click Colors, and then click the colors that you want.

Create custom theme colors

  1. On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click Colors, and then click Create New Theme Colors.
  2. Under Theme colors, click the button of the theme color element that you want to change, and then select the color that you want to use. Repeat for all of the theme color elements that you want to change.
  3. In the Name box, type an appropriate name for the new theme colors, and then click Save.

    Tip To return all theme color elements to their original theme colors, you can click Reset before you click Save.

Delete custom theme colors

  • On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click Colors.
  • Under Custom, right-click the custom colors that you want to delete, and then on the shortcut menu, click Delete.

Change theme fonts

  • On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click Fonts, and then click the fonts that you want.

Create custom theme fonts

  1. On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click Fonts, and then click Create New Theme Fonts.
  2. In the Heading font and Body font boxes, select the fonts that you want to use.
  3. In the Name box, type an appropriate name for the new theme fonts, and then click Save.

Delete custom theme fonts

  • On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click Fonts.
  • Under Custom, right-click the custom fonts that you want to delete, and then on the shortcut menu, click Delete.

Change theme effects

  • On the Design tab, in the Themes group, point to Effects, and then click the effects that you want.

Add or change a background

  • On the Design tab, in the Background group, click Background Styles, and then click the background that you want to apply.

Use a picture for a slide background

  1. On the Design tab, in the Background group, click Background Styles, and then click Format Background.
  2. Click Picture or texture fill.
  3. To insert a picture from a file, click File, and then locate the picture that you want to add.

    To paste a picture from the Clipboard or another program, copy the picture, and then click Clipboard.

    To use Clip Art, click Clip Art, and then type a word that describes the clip in the Search text box.

    Tip    To use the picture as the background for all of your slides, in the Format Background dialog box, click Apply to All.

Fade a picture

  1. On the Design tab, in the Background group, click Background Styles, and then click Format Background.
  2. Click Picture to switch to the Picture pane.
  3. Click Recolor, and then in the Recolor gallery, under Color Modes, click Washout.
