About publishing and FTP

Person publishing a Web site to a server

FTP allows you to publish files to remote Web servers.

COURSE TEXT

What is FTP? FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is a way to transfer, or publish, files from one computer to another remote computer.

When we say remote computer, we mean a computer that you aren't in immediate control of. Typically the remote computer is your hosting company's Web server. But it could also be a server in your company's intranet that somebody else is in charge of.
