In Internet Explorer 8, you will see a security warning when installing Office 365 Home

When installing Office 365 Home on the My Account page, if you are using Windows Internet Explorer 8, you will see a security warning:

To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options...

Workaround    To proceed with the download, you will have to click Agree to download the files. This will reload the My Account page, and you will have to click the Install button again.

Office Telemetry tools cannot switch display languages if the language pack is installed with Office 365 ProPlus

When you install the Office Single Language Pack on Office 365 ProPlus, the Office Telemetry Log and Telemetry Dashboard tools (Start > Microsoft Office 2013 > Office 2013 Tools) cannot switch display languages even if you changed the language settings in Office Language Preference (Start > Microsoft Office 2013 > Office 2013 Tools). In this case, the ribbon menu will switch to your chosen language, but the contents of the tools will keep the language of Office 365 ProPlus.

This issue occurs only for the combination of a language pack and Office 365 ProPlus installation and doesn’t occur for Office Professional.

Workaround    There is no work around for this issue.

Signup for Office 365 Home may fail when the Windows Live Network is unavailable

When signing up for Office 365 Home, the Microsoft account (Windows Live) page may not display the user name and password boxes. Instead, it displays a red error message that says: “The Windows Live Network is unavailable.”

Workaround    To work around this issue, sign out of any websites that use Microsoft account (Windows Live)—for example, www.live.com or www.hotmail.com—by navigating to that site and then selecting Sign Out. Once you are signed out of Windows Live, try signing up for Office 365 Home again.

Removing a user’s license for Exchange Online may also remove their Lync Online Contacts list

If a user has licenses for both Exchange Online and Lync Online, and the admin removes their Exchange Online license, the user’s Lync Online Contacts list may be deleted. If the admin restores the Exchange Online license within 30 days, the Contacts list will be restored as well.

Workaround    The best way to keep the user from losing their Lync Online Contacts list is to not remove their Exchange Online license when the user also has Lync Online.

Key sharing URL needs to be configured to enable RMS Online in Exchange Online

Applies only to Office 365 Enterprise and Office 365 Midsize Business

RMS Online, the Rights Management Service (RMS) provided with Exchange Online 2013, allows you to use rights management services such as enabling encryption features and protecting email and voicemail from the cloud. You can enable RMS Online from the Exchange Management Console, but first you need to configure the RMS Online key sharing URL. We are working to fix this in a future release.

Workaround    To configure the RMS Online key sharing URL, do the following.

  1. Connect to your Exchange Online tenant using Windows PowerShell. If you’re located in:
  • North America, run the following command to set the key sharing URL:
  • Set-IRMConfiguration -RMSOnlineKeySharingLocation https://sp-rms.na.aadrm.com/TenantManagement/ServicePartner.svc
  • The European Union, run the following command to set the key sharing URL:
  • Set-IRMConfiguration -RMSOnlineKeySharingLocation https://sp-rms.eu.aadrm.com/TenantManagement/ServicePartner.svc
  • The Asia Pacific area, run the following command to set the key sharing URL:
  • Set-IRMConfiguration -RMSOnlineKeySharingLocation https://sp-rms.ap.aadrm.com/TenantManagement/ServicePartner.svc
  1. Test the configuration by running the following command:

Update needed when connecting Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 to Exchange Online

You will need to run Windows Update to install the following update in order to connect Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 to Exchange Online:

When using Exchange Web Services, the GetConversationItems operation may not function correctly under certain circumstances

The GetConversationItems operation in Exchange Web Services doesn't function correctly under the following conditions:

  • The BaseShape is set to IdOnly or AllProperties without any additional properties. If this happens, an internal server error is returned in a simple object access protocol (SOAP) fault.
  • The BaseShape is set to FirstClassProperties and additional properties are added. If this happens, the server tries to return a response that fails schema validation.

Workaround    To work around this issue, use the IdOnly BaseShape and specify one or more additional properties to return in the response.

Can't manage public folders from Exchange Administration Center

You can create and manage public folder mailboxes from the Exchange Administration Center, but you can't manage public folders themselves. Public folder management includes creating, retrieving, updating, and deleting public folders and modifying permissions on public folders.

Workaround    To manage public folders themselves, use Microsoft Outlook.

Can't add rules to a data loss prevention policy with non-alphanumeric characters in its name

When a data loss prevention (DLP) policy is created with non-alphanumeric characters in its name, you can't add additional rules to the policy. When you try to save the policy after you've added a new rule, you'll receive the error “Unable to find DLP policy with the following name: <DLP policy name>.”

Workaround    To work around the issue, do the following:

  1. Remove any non-alphanumeric characters from the DLP policy name and save the policy. Valid characters include A-Z, a-z, 0-9. DLP policy names can't include spaces.
  2. Open the policy, and then add the new rule.

Allowed domains are not saved after switching external access settings in the Lync Admin Center

After changing the External Access settings in the Lync Admin Center from On only for allowed domains to On except for blocked domains, the list of allowed domains disappears and is not retrievable if the External Access settings are changed back to the original state.

Workaround    There is no workaround at this time.

Q&A Manager is unavailable in Lync Online

When a Lync Online user in Office 365 tries to start the Q&A Manager in Microsoft Lync 2013, the user receives the following error message:

Some presenting features are unavailable due to server connectivity issues.

You can also find this information in this KB article.

Workaround    There is no workaround at this time.

Avoid additional ACP usage charges by ending Lync Online meetings correctly

Meeting organizers that do not properly end and exit a meeting may be met with additional charges from their audio conferencing provider (ACP) due to dialed in users remaining on the conference bridge for an extended period of time.

Workaround    Meeting organizers should properly end and exit each meeting. See these articles for best practices:

If you’re using Lync Phone Edition integrated with Lync on your computer, and are on a call with someone using Lync Mobile, you cannot add another person to the call

You can’t add another person to your call if you’re using Lync Phone Edition integrated with Lync on your computer and you’re already talking to someone using Lync Mobile.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Inadvertent sending of emoticons in Finnish

Finnish customers may inadvertently send emoticons in instant messages because of the usage of postpositions, such as the following, which match with the shortcuts for emoticons:

  • :s
  • :o
  • :d
  • :p

These accidental emoticons may offend the recipient unintentionally.

Workaround    Finnish customers can turn off the rendering of emoticons by unchecking Show emoticons in instant messages in Options > General.

PowerPoint Sharing: Slides aren’t appearing or showing up as black slides

When you use PowerPoint Sharing, the slides aren’t appearing or are showing up as black slides.

Workaround    If your Internet Explorer security settings are set to a high level, the Lync PowerPoint Sharing feature won't work. To use this feature, lower your Internet Explorer security settings and/or turn off features such as Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration.

Object names starting with weak characters may appear in the wrong order in Lync Admin Center

In right-to-left languages, object names input by the user (such as user names, email addresses, file names, etc.) might be displayed in an incorrect reading order if they start with “weak” characters. In this context, weak characters are characters that the application cannot easily tell whether to list in a right-to-left or left-to-right order. Characters that fall into this weak category are numbers, punctuation, and spaces.

Example: 001@contoso.com might be displayed as contoso.com@001 in the User name column of the Users page.

Workaround    Use object names that do not start with numbers, punctuation, or spaces.

After uploading a new self-picture in Lync, others will see the new picture, but you will still see the old picture

When you try to replace your picture in Lync, the original picture will still appear to you, even though others will see the new picture. This is because HD Photo download from Exchange is not available in Lync Online .

Workaround    There is no workaround at this time.

Blank UI or video driver crash

You might see blank UI or have the UI disappear when you hover in Office programs. Your video driver might also crash or hang.

Workaround    Try to update your video card driver or click File > Options > Advanced > Display, and then select the Disable Video Hardware acceleration box.

Project Online and Project Pro for Office 365

For related issues, see Project Server 2013 known issues.

Preexisting custom reports cannot be viewed in Project Pro for Office 365

If you created custom reports for Project Pro for Office 365 , you will not be able to view these reports in Project Pro for Office 365 because the file format for custom reports has changed.

Workaround    There is no work around for this issue.

Workflows will not update Project Online fields if the project is not checked in

In order for a workflow to write data back to Project Online fields, the project must be checked in. If it is not, the Set this field in project to this value activity will pause workflow execution, and wait for the project to be checked in. If the workflow designer did not indicate that a check in is required as a Workflow Status message, the user will not be sure what to do to move forward.

Workaround    This can be handled in a couple of ways:

  • Flag the stage (in the stage definition) as Requires Check In. When the user clicks Submit, the project will be temporarily checked in so that the update can be performed. It will then be checked back out to the user, and the workflow will continue.
  • Set a workflow status message indicating that the project must be checked in, and then use a Wait for Event: When a project is checked in activity.

New reports in Project Pro for Office 365 require you to update your global.mpt file

If you go to the Report Menu dialog box in Project Pro for Office 365 (Project > Reports > MoreReports) you will not be able to see the new reports and categories.

Workaround    In order to view the new reports, you need to update your global.mpt file:

  1. Close Project Pro for Office 365.
  2. Delete your global.mpt file.

Note    The global.mpt can be found at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MS Project\15\1033.

  1. Start Project Pro for Office 365.
  2. Navigate to reports and verify that you can now see the new reports.

Resource Plan ribbon disabled in Project Pro for Office 365

The ribbon controls on the resource plan page for Project Pro for Office 365 are disabled when the page loads. In Internet Explorer 8, there's a script error and the ribbon controls cannot be enabled.

Workaround    We recommend that you use Internet Explorer 9 or Chrome instead. In Internet Explorer 9 or Chrome, click in the grid area to enable the Resource Plan ribbon.

The VBA (VBA: A complete programming language you can use to automate tasks in Project and many other Microsoft programs.) method SynchronizeWithSiteEx is not functional

The new Visual Basic for Applications method, SynchronizeWithSiteEx, is not functional for Office or for Office 365.

Workaround    Instead, use the VBA method SynchronizeWithSite.

Visual reports can only be viewed in English for this release

If you select a visual report in a language other than English in Project Professional or Project Pro for Office 365, you get the error "An unknown error has occurred", and you are unable to view the report. There is a known issue preventing viewing visual reports in languages other than English.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Workflow stage transition UI may refresh before the workflow stage has been entered

When working with a multi-stage workflow in Project Online , when you submit from one stage to another, the page may refresh before the workflow has finished the transition. The UI will appear to indicate that you are still in the previous stage.

Workaround    Refresh the page to show correct stage information.

OData Excel reports appear in English for Spanish and Japanese versions

If you install the Spanish or Japanese version of Project Server or Project Online, the Project Overview, Resource Overview, and Project Overview Dashboard Excel reports will appear in English rather than in your chosen language.

Workaround    To see these reports in your chosen language, you will need to recreate the OData Excel reports in Spanish or Japanese.

Excel reports using OData connections can't be refreshed in Excel Services

In both Project Server and Project Online, when an Excel file is selected and displayed in the browser using Excel Services, if the Excel file has connections to the Project OData feed, a user may attempt to refresh data connections, but the refresh will not be successful.

Workaround    To refresh your data, open the file in Excel 2013, refresh the data, and then save the file back to the SharePoint document library where it resides. Next time the report is viewed using Excel Services, it will have the most recent data.

You may get an error message when refreshing Excel reports using OData

When you build Excel reports using the OData connection to Project Server or Project Online, you may occasionally see this message when trying to refresh the reports:

The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.

This error may be encountered intermittently as a result of server responsiveness issues.

Workaround    Usually a second or third attempt will refresh the Excel report successfully.

The URL address of Project Web App cannot have space in its name

When provisioning Project Web App, if the Project Web App URL (including its parent sites) have spaces, you will not be able to interact with projects or resources and custom fields.

Workaround    When provisioning Project Web App or site collections for Project Web App, make sure the URL doesn't have spaces in it.

You will get an error message during your initial refresh of server reports connected to OData

When you attempt to refresh any of the three server reports connected to OData, an error message is displayed when trying to make the initial connection:

The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.

For example, "Projects Overview" has five workbook connections, and an error is always displayed referencing the Assignments connection.

Workaround    Dismiss the error message and refresh a second time. The second refresh should complete successfully with no error.

SharePoint controls cannot be dragged from the Visual Studio Toolbox to the site page editor if SharePoint Server is not installed on the same machine

If SharePoint Server is not installed on your machine, when you are developing a site page in a SharePoint app project, you will not be able to drag-and-drop SharePoint controls from the Visual Studio Toolbox to the site page editor.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue. However, customers can use IntelliSense support in the site page editor to use the controls.

Debugging a workflow in and app for SharePoint requires additional steps to move from one activity breakpoint to the next activity breakpoint

Debugging a workflow in an app for SharePoint requires you to press F10 or F11 repeatedly to move from one activity breakpoint to the next activity breakpoint. This is because the system unnecessarily steps into an Activity and breaks on its expressions before reaching the next Activity.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue. Press F10 or F11 repeatedly until the next Activity breakpoint is reached.

Users sometimes can't access the Site Mailbox on the root SharePoint site

When you try to access the Site Mailbox app on your root site in SharePoint, you may run into an “Access Denied” error message or just a blank page. This is usually because the site's default Owners and Members groups don’t contain any individual users, and Site Mailboxes only allow access to users who are individually listed in these groups. This issue may also occur on any subsites that inherit permissions from the root site on the site collection.

Workaround    The best way to work around this issue is to install the Site Mailbox app on sites that do not inherit permissions from the root site in your site collection. You can create sites with unique permissions by going to the Sites tab and clicking on New site.

You can also work around this issue on sites that inherit permissions, but only if you haven't created a site mailbox for those sites already. You will need to add users to the Owners or Members groups on the root site of that site collection. To do this, go to the root site, navigate to Site Settings (by clicking the gear icon at the top right of your SharePoint page), and then click People and Groups. Once on that page, add yourself and any other relevant users individually to the Owners or Members groups by clicking New and then Add users to this group. Remember, access to the Site Mailboxes will be restricted to users that are individually listed in the Owners or Members groups on your site. Security groups or distribution lists are not supported by Site Mailboxes.

Collaboration

A List View Web Part for a Tasks list doesn’t filter values for a connected web part

You configure a lookup column for a SharePoint Online tasks list to retrieve data from a custom list which contains values and then create a List View Web Part for the two lists on a page. You configure a connection between to two web parts, and then configure the tasks list to Get Filter Values From, and specify the custom list. When you try to filter values in the list, the results do not filter as expected.

Workaround    Enable Server Rendering on the List View Web Part for the affected tasks list. The Server Rendering setting is available in the Miscellaneous section of the Edit Web Part menu. For specific steps, follow the workaround section in this KB article.

You receive an error message when you try to save a SharePoint Online site as a template and content approval for submitted items is set to Yes for the Solutions Gallery

After you configure the Require content approval for submitted items? setting to Yes for a SharePoint Online site’s Solution Gallery, when you try to save the site as a template, you receive the error:

Sorry, something went wrong

An unexpected error has occurred.

Workaround    Change the Require content approval for submitted items? setting for the Solution Gallery to No, and then save the site as a template. You can also find this information in this KB article.

A SharePoint Online list using the calendar view opens items in the form dialog box when you add or edit items

On a SharePoint Online list which is using the calendar view, you have specified No for Launch forms in a dialog within List Settings, Advanced Settings. When you open an item from the list or create a new item, the list item still opens the form dialog box.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue. You can also find this information in this KB article.

The "Assigned To" column isn't sorted correctly for a SharePoint Online Tasks list

When you try to sort the Assigned To column for a SharePoint Online list that’s based on the Tasks list template, the column is not sorted correctly for the list.

Note    In this scenario, the Assigned To column setting Allow multiple selections is set to No.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue. You can also find this information in this KB article.

You receive an error message when you try to create a New Navigation Link or Save the site as a template

On a SharePoint Online site collection which was created using the Basic Search Center template, when you click New Navigation Link in the Top Link Bar menu, or try to use the Save site as template option in Site Settings, you receive the following error message:

Sorry, something went wrong.

An unexpected error has occurred.

Workaround    There is no work around for this issue. You can also find this information in this KB article.

There is no hyperlink to a file which was added to a SharePoint Online list using the Enhanced rich text option

On a SharePoint Online list which contains a custom column using the Enhanced rich text column type, when you use the Upload File button to add a file and select another list as the Destination Library, the hyperlink to the file is not present when you view the list with the Enhanced rich text column type.

Workaround    To work around this issue, browse to the Destination Library that contains the list item to view the item. You can also find this information in this KB article.

You receive the message “Sorry, something went wrong” when you add a related list to a Form Web Part in SharePoint Online

When you try to insert a Related List to a Form Web Part for a SharePoint Online list which is the source of a lookup column, you receive the following error message:

Sorry, something went wrong

List does not exist.

The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user.

Note    In this scenario, the source list of the lookup column exists on the site collection and the list which consumes the content from the lookup column exists on a subsite of the site collection.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue. You can also find this information in this KB article.

You cannot change the Default Language setting for a SharePoint Online My Site Host or the Search Center site collections

You are unable to change the Default Language setting for a SharePoint Online My Site Host or Search Center site collection from within Site Settings > Language Settings.

Workaround    To resolve this issue contact Microsoft Office 365 Support. You can also find this information in this KB article.

Personal messages need to be 256 characters or less when you share a SharePoint Online resource with an external user

When you share a SharePoint Online resource with an external user and you select the option to Send an email invitation and you fill in the field Include a personal message with this invitation (Optional), you receive the following error message:

Sorry, something went wrong

Invalid text value.

A text field contains invalid data. Please check the value and try again.

Workaround       To work around this issue, limit the personal message in the invitation to 256 characters or less. You can also find this information in this KB article.

You receive an error when you try to create a SharePoint Online subsite from a site template which was created from a subsite

When you save a site as a template in SharePoint Online, if the subsite you created a template from has a list with a folder which contains an empty folder, when you create a site using the saved template, you receive the following error message:

Error(null) “<name of template>/<name of list with empty folder>/<name of folder>/<name of empty folder>” not found.

Note    In this scenario, the items within the <> are specific to the names that you used on your site.

This error occurs when you're using the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 experience version on your SharePoint Online site. However, it doesn't occur if you're using the Microsoft SharePoint 2013 experience version.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue. You can also find this information in this KB article.

A SharePoint Online user is unable to request access to a resource

When a SharePoint Online user attempts to open a SharePoint Online resource which they do not have access to, they receive a message that access is denied and there is no method to request access to the resource. In this scenario, you have configured the site to Allow requests for access or Allow Access Requests (depending on your version of SharePoint Online), however the user does not have the option to fill out the access request form.

This issue affects sites using both the SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 experience version.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Error message appears when viewing a category in a community for a SharePoint Online site which was created from a template

When you create a category in a community for a SharePoint Online subsite which was created from a site saved as a template, and the template was created from either a Team Site with the Community Site Feature active, or a Community Site template, you receive the following error message when you click on the tile for the category:

“Cannot complete this action. Please try again.”

Workaround    To work around this issue, create sites from a standard SharePoint Online template when you plan to use community categories. Categories will function properly in a site which was not created from a site saved as a template. You can also find this information in this KB article.

You can’t subscribe to an RSS feed from a SharePoint Online public site blog or from Outlook 2013

When you view an RSS Feed from the blog of a SharePoint Online public site, you see some XML content and the option to subscribe to the feed does not exist. If you attempt to subscribe to the feed in Outlook 2013, you are prompted for credentials and are unable to add the feed to Outlook 2013.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Yammer App for SharePoint: App part doesn’t render and gives an iFrame error in Internet Explorer

Because the Service Manager component in Office programs automatically adds SharePoint tenant domains to Trusted Sites security zone in Internet Explorer whenever you open a document from a SharePoint site, you get an IFrame error. The login endpoint isn’t added to Trusted Sites. The user authentication to SharePoint still succeeds, but the iFrame itself isn’t rendered as it’s blocked by click jacking protection.

Workaround    Add following sites into your Trusted Sites list and restart the session.

If adding these sites doesn’t solve the problem, please turn on Protected Mode for Trusted sites.

Yammer App for SharePoint: Blank dialog box pops-up on login when using Internet Explorer

Having *.yammer.com and *.sharepoint.com (like your SharePoint domain) in the Intranet Zone setting in Internet Explorer prevents you from logging into the Yammer from the Yammer App for SharePoint. You’ll see a blank dialog box after logging into Yammer from the app.

Workaround    Add following sites into your Trusted Sites list and restart the session.

Profile changes do not appear in the Newsfeed

The following notifications will not appear in the Newsfeed:

  • Following a document or site
  • Following a tag
  • Tagging an item
  • Birthday celebration
  • Job title change
  • Workplace anniversary
  • Updating your "Ask Me About"
  • Posting on a note board

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Changing the theme on personal sites causes Quick Launch links to disappear

Changing the master page on the personal site from mysite15.master to another master page causes the Quick Launch links on the left to disappear.

Note    In SharePoint 2013 there is no longer an entry point in Site Settings that in previous versions allowed users to change the master page on their personal sites.

Workaround

To fix your Quick Launch links:

  1. Open SharePoint Designer.
  2. From the initial Sites page, click the Open Site option and enter the URL of the personal site in the Site name field (for example, <MySiteHostUrl>/personal/<name>) using SharePoint Designer.
  3. From the Site Objects list on the left, select Master Pages.
  4. From the resulting list of master pages, right-click the mysite15.master item and select Set as Default Master Page.
  5. From the resulting list of master pages, again, right-click the mysite15.master item and select Set as Custom Master Page.
  6. Click the refresh button or hit F5 to refresh. You're done in SharePoint Designer.
  7. Return to your browser and hit F5 to refresh. You should see your missing Quick Launch links re-appear.

Some user activities do not appear in newsfeeds in SharePoint Online

The following activities will not appear in newsfeeds in SharePoint Online :

  • Following a tag
  • Tagging an item
  • Birthday celebration
  • Job title change
  • Workplace anniversary
  • Updating your “Ask Me About”
  • Posting on a note board

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Tagged posts may appear to have been tagged with the author's name or an incorrect tag

The description preceding tagged posts in your newsfeed in SharePoint Online or SharePoint Server 2013 should state the tag you are following, but may instead state that the conversation was tagged with the author's name or an incorrect tag.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Opening from or saving to your MySite from your desktop apps may not work

Even though you see the MySite Documents library as a folder you can save to on your desktop computer, you may not be able to save to your MySite because your MySite has not yet been provisioned. If your MySite is not instantiated and you try to save a document from one of your desktop apps to the MySite Documents library, the desktop app will instead either save the document to a local folder or to the last location you saved a file to.

Workaround    Navigate to your MySite home page, which usually is at https://customer-my.sharepoint.com/default.aspx. As soon as you are able to access the OneDrive for Business page, you will be able to use MySite as the default save location from desktop apps.

The New site link in SharePoint Online shows a permission error for non-admin users

The Sites page in Office 365 includes a link to create a New site. In the default setup of SharePoint Online, a user who is not a global administrator will see "Error: You do not have permission to create projects at /". This is because in order to use this feature, the non-admin user must have the Create Subsite permission on the parent site chosen in the dialog box.

Workaround    To fix this issue, an administrator must provide Create Subsites permissions to the users who need permission to use the "new site" link. See this KB article for instructions on how to do this.

Access requests to sites are disabled by default in SharePoint Online

SharePoint Server 2013 includes an access request feature which allows both users without access to the site, and users who can contribute to the site, to request access for themselves or on behalf of other users. These requests are made visible to owners of the site, who can approve, reject, or send back the requests to the requestors for more information.

This feature is disabled by default in SharePoint Online. As a result:

  • Users without access to the site will see "Error: Access Denied" when they attempt to access the site, with no option to initiate an access request.
  • Contributors with access to the site but without permission to add new users will not see the Share link in the top navigation area.

Workaround    To enable access requests for a site, follow the steps in this KB article.

Clicking on Newsfeed results will lead to a broken page

When searching for a post or reply from someone's Newsfeed, you will find the post or reply in search results, but when you click on the title, you will see a broken page instead of the post.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

External users will not be able access a OneDrive folder shared with them

If you share a folder from your OneDrive with an external user, the user will get a mail notification. When the user clicks on the link in the email message to access the folder, he or she will see a dialog box with an "access denied" message. This dialog box will block the external user from accessing the contents of the folder.

This issue does not affect if a site or document is shared with external users. It only affects folder sharing with external users when the folder is in OneDrive.

Workaround    Share individual files or Team Sites with external users instead.

Search

Preview panel appears blank when hovering over SharePoint search results in Internet Explorer

When you search for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents in SharePoint Online and SharePoint Server, you should be able to hover your mouse over the search results and see a preview of the document in a pop-up hover panel. In Internet Explorer, you will often see a blank space in the hover panel where this preview should show. This is true for Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9, and Internet Explorer 10.

Chrome and Firefox browsers are not affected.

Workaround    In Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer: A Web browser that interprets HTML files, formats them into Web pages, and displays them to the user. You can download Internet Explorer from the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com.), zoom in and zoom back out (press Ctrl+Plus Sign to zoom in, and Ctrl+Minus Sign to zoom out) and the preview will show in the hover panel. You will have to perform this workaround on each search query, and sometimes on each result that is being inspected.

Errors while importing the search configuration

When the users try to import the search configuration to a tenant, site collection, or site, they may get an error.

Workaround    Depending on the error, following are the workarounds.

An email alert that's sent from a SharePoint Online calendar is missing or contains incorrect information

When you receive an email alert which has been sent for a SharePoint Online calendar with a custom column configured for Person or Group selection, the values for the Person or Group custom column in the email alert aren't populated, or the values are incorrect.

Workaround    Browse directly to the SharePoint Online Calendar to view the contents of the custom column that isn't populated in the alert notification. You can also find this information in this KB article.

External list instance cannot be created for an external content type that has PageNumber filter

If you create an external content type in SharePoint Online or SharePoint Server using Visual Studio and want to add a PageNumber filter to the external content type, you'll need to make sure that no list instance is created for that external content type. Otherwise, you will see an error stating “Fail to install App for SharePoint.”

Workaround    Remove the list instance for that external content type or remove the PageNumber filter from that external content type.

Three issues occur when HTML versions of master pages are created in SharePoint Online

When you convert an HTML master page or when you create a master page from the SharePoint Online minimal template, you'll run into the following three issues.

  • The master page will include an incorrect reference to /_layouts/15/images/spmpv15gradients.png

Workaround    Remove the following line from your HTML file:

<!--SPM:<SharePoint:ImageRegistration runat="server" ImageUrl="/_layouts/15/images/spmpv15gradients.png" Hide="true"/>-->

  • The callout menus will fail.

Workaround    Insert the following line into the <head> section of your HTML file:

<!<!--SPM:<SharePoint:ScriptLink language="javascript" name="callout.js" OnDemand="true" runat="server" Localizable="false" />-->

  • There will be a minor problem with the ribbon.

Workaround    Replace the following “old” text with the following “new” text for the 4-ribbonrow div.

Old New

<div id="s4-ribbonrow">
    <div id="globalNavBox">
        <div id="ms-designer-ribbon">

"There was an error creating a file" error message when you try to save a Visio file to a SharePoint Online site

When you try to save a Microsoft Visio file to a SharePoint Online list and select the option to Save the file as a Web Page, you receive the message “There was an error creating a file.”

Workaround    Browse to the list where you're trying to save the file, click the LIBRARY tab on the ribbon, and then click Open with Explorer. After you complete these steps, save the file in Visio again. You can also find this information in this KB article.

A document that was created through the SharePoint 2013 Workflow Platform and is based on a template from a content type doesn't open in SharePoint Online

You use the SharePoint 2013 Workflow Platform Type to create a workflow within SharePoint Designer 2013. The workflow is configured to create a document based on a content type’s template. When you click the document which was created by the workflow, you receive the following message:

Sorry, Word Web App ran into a problem opening this document. To view this document please open it in Microsoft Word.

Additionally, when you try to open the document in Microsoft Word by clicking Open in Word, the document is blank.

Workaround    Use the SharePoint 2010 Workflow Platform Type to create the workflow in SharePoint Designer 2013. Note that the template that's used for the content type must be based on the .docx Word document format. You can also find this information in this KB article.

You receive an error message when you create a Three-state workflow which is associated with a task-based content type

When you open a task-based content type by clicking the name of the item on the Site Content Types page, and then associated a Three-state workflow with the content type on the Workflow Settings page, you receive the following error message when you click OK in the Add a Workflow page:

Sorry, something went wrong.

Workaround    Even though the error message is returned, the workflow is associated with the content type and runs correctly as long as the content type contains the necessary fields. Therefore, you can safely ignore this error message. You can also find this information in this KB article.

A SharePoint Online workflow that was copied and pasted from a Workflows Site Object in SharePoint Designer is linked to the source workflow

When you copy and paste a workflow in SharePoint Designer 2010 or SharePoint Designer 2013 using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V keyboard shortcuts, two workflows exist in the Workflows section of Site Objects and they have the same name. When you make changes to one of these workflows, both workflows are affected.

Workaround    Don't copy and paste from the Workflows section of Site Objects by using keyboard shortcuts on any workflow. If a workflow is a Reusable Workflow, use the ribbon to Copy & Modify the workflow. You can also find this information in this KB article.

Your SharePoint workflow will crash when it tries to read the Content Type field

When your SharePoint workflow tries to read the Content Type field of a list item or a document, the workflow will stop working.

Workaround    Use the Start a list/site workflow action to open start the SharePoint 2010 workflow which can read the Content Type field. Or you can work with the Call HTTP web service action with ContentTypeID to get content type name and its value.

Can't select shapes in Visio Web Part using the Chrome browser

When a Visio diagram is viewed in a Web Part (Web Part: A modular unit of information that consists of a title bar, a frame, and content. Web Parts are the basic building blocks of a Web Part Page.) using the Chrome browser, you can't select the shapes in the diagram.

Workaround    No workaround is available for the Chrome browser, but you can use other browsers to view and select shapes.

Workflow Status columns do not update automatically

Workflow Status columns should update automatically as workflows progress, but they do not correctly update in the SharePoint Online. Instead, the status column stays blank.

Workaround    You can manually add updates to the SharePoint Online list as part of your workflows.

If you are an on-premises server customer, you can manually work around the issue by setting the read-only property to false.

In a SharePoint PowerShell prompt, run the following:

$web = get-spweb<the Site Url>

$list = $web.Lists[<name of the list or document library>]

$statusField = $list.Fields[<name of workflow status field>]

$statusField.ReadOnlyField=$false

$statusField.Update()"

SharePoint solution with custom activity shows error in the Workflow Designer and the output window

Your SharePoint solution with custom activity will show an error in the Workflow Designer and the output window, even though it deploys and runs successfully.

Workaround    To avoid this issue, open the custom activities in the Workflow Designer before opening the workflow.xaml file. For example, if a project has 3 XAML files for:

  • MyActivity
  • MyActivity2 which uses MyActivity
  • MyWorkflow which uses MyActivity2

You should do the following:

  1. Close all the Workflow Designers.
  2. Open the XAML files in the following order: MyActivity, MyActivity2, and then MyWorkflow.

This workaround will last until the next time project is built. If the error occurs again, repeat this workaround.

Two Custom Activities cannot have the same name in a SharePoint Workflow

If you give two Custom Activities the same name when you are setting up your Workflow in SharePoint, Workflow creation will fail, even if the two Custom Activities are from different projects.

Workaround    Give Workflow Custom Activities unique names.

SharePoint Workflow will fail if column names include certain special characters

A SharePoint Workflow will fail due to formatting exception if a column name includes any of these special characters:

""'{}<>/.!@#$%)*(&

Example error message:

System.IO.InvalidDataException: Unable to deserialize HTTP response content. Expected ContentType : 'application/json', Received ContentType : 'application/json'. Content (truncated) : ''. Deserialization exception : 'The input source is not correctly formatted.'. ResponseStatusCode : 'BadRequest' at Microsoft.Activities.Messaging.SendHttpRequest.ProcessResponseMessage(HttpResponseMessage responseMessage, NativeActivityContext context) at Microsoft.Activities.Messaging.SendHttpRequest.OnReceiveResponse(NativeActivityContext context, Bookmark bookmark, Object value) at System.Activities.Runtime.BookmarkCallbackWrapper.Invoke(NativeActivityContext context, Bookmark bookmark, Object value) at System.Activities.Runtime.BookmarkWorkItem.Execute(ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager bookmarkManager)

Workaround    Avoid using the special characters listed in this section when naming a SharePoint column. If a column has already been created with unsupported special characters in its title, update the column name to exclude these special characters and that will resolve this issue.

SharePoint Workflow task activity doesn’t list WaitForTask and SendReminderEmail properties as required, but they are required

In Visual Studio, SharePoint Workflow Task activity contains required properties WaitForTask and SendReminderEmail. However, these properties are not marked as required, thus unintentionally allowing a workflow with these missing properties to successfully build and deploy to SharePoint. As a result, a validation error will occur during workflow runtime due to missing required values.

Workaround    From the property pane of a SharePoint Workflow Task activity, provide appropriate values for "WaitForTask" and "SendReminderEmail" properties.

A SharePoint workflow cannot be combined with other SharePoint project items within a sandboxed solution

A workflow cannot be combined with other SharePoint project items within a sandboxed solution that will be deployed to SharePoint Online.

Workaround    To add a workflow project to a sandboxed solution for deployment to SharePoint Online, you must exclude the DLL from the package by setting the Include Assembly in Package property to False. If the sandboxed solution contains other project items that require the assembly to be included within the package, such as event receivers or web parts, please use a separate solution for the workflow.

Visio diagrams not viewable in SharePoint when using a mobile browser

When you are browsing to a Visio diagram in a SharePoint library using a mobile browser, you are asked whether you want to download the file rather than it displaying in Visio Services. This primarily affects mobile phone browsers and the iPad.

Workaround    There are two workarounds for this issue:

  • Update the URL of the file you want to view to end with ""Mobile=0"" instead of ""Mobile=1""
  • Deactivate the “Automatic Mobile Browser Redirection” site feature for the SharePoint site. Note that this affects all Office documents viewed in the browser, not just Visio documents.

SharePoint Workflow cannot contain an Argument with a default value

SharePoint Workflow will result in designer errors, failure to deploy, or failure to load if it contains an Argument with a default value.

Workaround    Do not set the default value of a Workflow Argument directly. Instead, use the "Assign" activity to assign a value to an Argument.

Other

Custom Help will no longer appear in SharePoint Online

Help content added via the Custom Site Collection Help feature or HCINSTALL.EXE will no longer display in SharePoint Online.

Workaround    You can provide custom assistance content to your users via sites, wikis, or third-party apps.

Syncing document libraries from more than one SharePoint Online host on the same computer causes an error in OneDrive for Business

In the OneDrive for Business application, syncing document libraries from more than one SharePoint Online host on the same computer will cause a "credentials required" error state for all but the most recently set up library. Documents and changes made to them will fail to upload and download.

Workaround    The workaround for this issue is to use Internet Explorer to navigate to the SharePoint Online document library the user wants to sync and, on the sign-in page, enter your SharePoint Online user name and password. Make sure the Remember me and Keep me logged in check boxes are selected before signing in. Once you do this, syncing of libraries should work properly.

Visio Pro for Office 365

For related issues, see Office known issues.

After you add a data graphics legend, shapes are added to the legend rather than the page

If you add a data graphic legend in Visio Pro for Office 365 using the option Data > Data Graphics > Insert Legend, all shapes inserted after this will be added to the legend rather than to the main diagram.

Workaround    Avoid data graphic legends or insert them only after all editing on the diagram is complete.

Coauthoring is not fully supported by some Visio Pro for Office 365 templates

Not all templates in Visio Pro for Office 365 properly support coauthoring completely, and coauthoring may also produce results that are unexpected. In particular Cross Functional Flowchart, Timeline, and Calendar templates have a number of significant issues. For example, in Timeline you may get duplicate milestones or milestones that overlap, and in Cross Functional Flowchart you may end up with shapes that aren’t in the correct location or that don’t appear to be in the right swim lane. The problems happen most commonly when the same users are editing the same shape or one is changing a container while another user is changing a shape contained in it.

Workaround    Avoid coauthoring on Cross Functional Flowchart, Timeline, or Calendar templates. Be aware that coauthoring may cause some unexpected results. We recommend using a copy of any important diagrams for coauthoring.

Ink does not work properly on Windows 8 Release Preview

When inking in a diagram in Visio on a computer running Windows 8 Release Preview, ink will not be visible until after the inking is finished. Ink will appear after the stroke is finished, but will not be visible while drawing.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Adding new shapes when coauthoring on servers with high latency may result in a crash on save

In cases where multiple authors are adding new shapes to a diagram, it is possible that Visio may crash when you try to save your file. This only happens when an author has made changes before the program has received the author information for all authors. Normally, the process of updating authors happens very quickly after opening the document, but it can take up to several minutes on servers experiencing a high latency. This problem is often accompanied by coauthoring icons appearing on shapes immediately after you have added them.

Workaround    You can take several precautions to avoid this problem:

  • If you do not want to coauthor a diagram, check the file out or limit the permissions to avoid others opening the file.
  • When you are coauthoring a file, wait until all authors appear in the list of authors in the status bar before making changes.
  • Save frequently to minimize loss in the event of a crash.
  • If you do crash, do not copy the recovered document to the server. If there are changes you wish to recover, save the recovery file to your hard drive, open the server file, and copy and paste any changes into the server file manually.

Color Picker diagrams using "No Theme" do not provide the correct set of colors

When a Visio diagram uses "No Theme" as its theme, the Color Picker does not provide the correct set of colors. When this issue is corrected in the future, your colors may change when you open the diagram using the release version of Visio 2013.

Workaround    The best workaround is to use a theme other than "No Theme". This issue won't affect other themes.

OneDrive Documents folder may appear as ^.Documents in File Open and File Save As

When using OneDrive, customers may notice that their OneDrive Documents folder appears as ^.Documents in File Open or File Save As. This is only a visual issue and has no impact on the customer's ability to save or open documents.

Workaround    No workaround is required. This only impacts the display of the location. In some circumstances, the ^.Documents entry may be duplicated. To remove this duplicate entry, right click and select "Remove from list".

Power BI for Office 365

Power BI sites might take some time to provision

After SharePoint Online has completed provisioning, Power BI sites are automatically provisioned on the SharePoint Online environment. This provisioning process might take a few minutes.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Renaming a site in SharePoint Online that contains Power BI content can cause failures

When a site name in SharePoint Online is modified, the corresponding paths to documents in the site are not updated. This causes links to Power BI content to fail.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Adding the Power BI site’s URL to a browser’s Trusted sites might prevent it from working

If you add the Power BI site’s URL to your browser’s Trusted sites while the SharePoint Online URL isn’t included, the Power BI site won’t load.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Public domains are not carried into Power BI sites

Power BI sites do not support the ability for a user to bring in another domain, even if the user associates that other domain with the SharePoint Online tenant. Power BI sites remain in the default domain of sites.powerbi.com.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Site name can’t include escape characters

The name of a site in Power BI sites can’t include escape characters like &, +, $, <>, a blank space. These characters cause the website address (URL) for a site to become unusable.

Workaround    Use alphanumeric characters for site names.

Unsupported workbook types

Workbooks saved as .xls, .xlsm, and .xlsb files aren’t supported in Power BI sites.

Workaround    Use .xlsx files in Power BI sites.

Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 9 browsers not supported

The Power BI for Office 365 sites application is supported in Internet Explorer 10.

Workaround    Use Internet Explorer 10.

Manage Data portal isn’t accessible for certain time zones

You can’t access the Manage Data portal if the time zone setting on your computer is other than full-hour time increment.

Workaround    Change the time zone on your computer to the nearest full-hour time increment before accessing the Manage Data portal.

Navigating back to Power BI Sites from the Manage Data Portal

The Manage Data portal does not provide any option to navigate back to Power BI Sites.

Workaround    You can do one of the following:

  • From the Manage Data portal, use your browser’s Back button to navigate back to Power BI Site.
  • While accessing the Manage Data portal from Power BI Sites, right-click on the Manage Data link in your Power BI site, and click Open in New tab to open the Manage Data portal in a new tab.
  • Add the URLs of your Power BI Sites, the Manage Data portal, and the Admin Center to your browser’s favorites or bookmarks list to quickly access them.

Delay in availability of shared queries via online search in Power Query

When you share a query in Power Query, it may take up to five minutes for your shared query to be available in online search. Your shared query will be immediately available to you in the Shared pane in Power Query, but will not appear in search results until the search index is updated, which may take up to five minutes to complete. For information about sharing queries, see Share Queries.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Limitation with the data displayed for the usage analytics for shared queries in the Manage Data portal

The graph in the Manage Data portal doesn’t display usage analytics data for the current day when you choose the data range as last 30 days and for the current hour when you choose the data range as last day. Additionally, there is a latency of 30 minutes before the usage analytics for shared queries is aggregated and displayed in the portal. For detailed information about the implications on the usage analytics for shared queries in the Manage Data portal as a result of these limitations, see View and Compare Usage Analytics for Your Shared Queries using the Manage Data Portal.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Not able to index data of the OData feed using the Admin Center

The ability to enable the indexing feature isn’t fully supported yet, and by default, is disabled. The Admin Center user controls for this feature are disabled until the data indexing feature is supported.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

Power BI Store app: Swiping on a chart legend doesn’t switch slides

You can swipe from the left or right to switch between slides in the Power BI Store app. However, swiping on a chart legend doesn’t switch slides. Instead you scroll through the legend items.

Workaround    Swipe anywhere on the page outside the legend area to switch slides.

Power BI Store app: No filters in the Filters pane after losing Internet connectivity

If you lose Internet connectivity or turn Wi-Fi off and back on, you might find you don’t see filters in the Filters pane.

Workaround    On the report page, swipe up to see the app bar and tap Reset to Original.

If the report is a favorite, on the Power BI Store app home page tap the Sync icon above the report or on the app bar tap Sync All for all the reports.

Power BI Store app: Charts with the same name in Excel might have extra slicers in the Store app

The Power BI Store app displays slicers that are associated with a chart in the Excel workbook. If multiple charts have the same name in the Excel workbook, Power BI displays all the slicers associated with all the charts with every chart.

Workaround    If you’re designing an Excel workbook for the Power BI Store app, make sure all the charts in the workbook have unique names. To check the names of charts and other objects in the workbook, click the arrow in the Name box (to the left of the formula bar). You see a list of all the named objects in the workbook.

Queries will not refresh after the resulting table has been renamed

Renaming a table in the Data Model (that is, using Power Pivot or Power View rename options) will make subsequent refresh attempts fail.

Workaround    Don’t rename resulting tables in the worksheet or Data Model until a fix for these issues is available.

Renaming a query and refreshing (through Power Query) while the Power Pivot Manage window is open causes a crash in Power Pivot and Excel

When trying to rename a query and refresh it via Power Query, while the Power Pivot Manage window is open, a crash will happen in Power Pivot and Excel.

Workaround    Rename and refresh via Power Query before opening the Power Pivot Manage window.

If your query is already loaded to Excel Data Model and you modify its command text in the Connection properties to some specific SQL statement, it will unload from the Data Model

Once a query has been loaded into the Excel Data Model, if you modify its command text in the Data Connection properties to some specific SQL statement, the query will be unloaded from the Data Model.

Workaround    Don’t modify the Connection SQL statements for existing Power Query queries.

Importing a Power Query query connection into Power Pivot in Excel 2013 using “Existing Connections” will leave Excel and Power Query processes running when you try to close Excel

If you try to import a Power Query query into Power Pivot in Excel 2013 using the “Existing Connections” functionality in Power Pivot, there will be Excel and Power Query processes that will keep running in the background when trying to close Excel.

Workaround    There is no workaround for this issue.

The Workbook Queries task pane and the Query ribbon tab might not show automatically after you enable connections on a workbook where connections were disabled

When you open a workbook containing Power Query queries, Excel might disable the connections as a security mechanism and offer an “Enable Content” button. After clicking this button, connections will be successfully enabled but the Workbook Queries pane might not show up automatically.

Workaround    Change the currently selected cell after enabling connections. If this cell belongs to a Power Query query loaded on the sheet, the Workbook Queries pane and Query ribbon tab will show up.

Loading a query for the first time fails if any worksheet in the workbook is protected

When you try to load a new query in an Excel workbook, an error will happen if any of the sheets in the workbook is protected.

Workaround    Check that none of the existing sheets in the workbook are protected before adding a new Power Query query.

OneDrive for Business with Office Online Standalone SKU

Top navigation doesn’t show Yammer navigation tab

As the tenant administrator of OneDrive for Business, you used to see Newsfeed or Yammer in the top navigation bar of Office 365. But with the standalone OneDrive for Business subscription you no longer see those tabs. Even when Yammer.com service is enabled in the tenant administrator page, this top navigation isn’t lighting up.

By design, standalone OneDrive for Business doesn’t by default contain Yammer or Newsfeed social navigation tabs. But when you enable Yammer.com service as your social network, the top navigation should show Yammer easy click link in addition to the OneDrive link.

Workaround    In the case where you enabled Yammer as your social network, you can browse directly to www.yammer.com and sign-in with your Office 365 organizational identity.
