Download, install, configure or uninstall an Office language interface pack

Language interface packs (LIPs) let you change the display language for the Office programs installed on your computer. For other language options, you might need to buy and download a language pack. See Do I need a language pack or language interface pack? to see which one is right for you.

If a language is available as a language pack, it won’t be available as a language interface pack.

Download and install a language interface pack

  1. On the Office Language Interface Pack (LIP) downloads page, click the LIP language you want.

Important   You must install the LIP version that matches your version of Office. For example, if you are using Office 2010, you must install the Office 2010 language interface pack.

  1. After you are redirected to the appropriate language download page, click Download, follow the instructions, and then click Install.

Important   The Genuine Windows Validation Component add-on must be installed on your computer. If it isn't, the Download button changes to a Continue button. You must complete the validation process before you can install the language interface pack.

  1. After the validation process is complete, click Run to download the file to your computer. If you are using Windows Vista, your user permissions might require you to click Continue after the software downloads.
  2. Select the check box to accept the Microsoft License Agreement, and then click OK.

After the installation is finished, a confirmation dialog box appears.

Configure a language interface pack

After you install the language interface pack software, you must configure Office 2010 for your new language preferences.

Important   All Office products must be closed for your changes to take effect.

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Office, click Microsoft Office 2010 Tools, and then click Office 2010 Language Preferences.
  2. In the Set the Office Language Preferences dialog box, under Choose Editing Languages, make sure that the proofing tools for the LIP language are installed and the keyboard language is enabled. You can change the default language for all of your Microsoft Office programs by changing the editing, display, and Help language in this dialog box. For more information, see Set the editing, display, or Help language preferences.
