When you first visit the Microsoft Office Online Web site, the language in which the site is displayed will be the same as the language settings in your Internet browser. If you want to change to another Office Online Web site, you can do this through the Office Worldwide page on your Office Online site.
When you choose a new site from the Office Worldwide page, your new preference is stored in a cookie. If your Internet settings allow persistent cookies, this cookie remains stored and retains the language setting until you choose to change your Office Online Web site again. If your Internet settings only allow temporary cookies, your change will be effective only during the current session. The next time you visit the Microsoft Office Online site, your Internet browser will open, by default, the Office Online site that matches your browser language settings.
Understanding cookies
A cookie is a small text file created by an Internet Web site to store information on your computer, such as your preferences when visiting that site.
When a cookie is saved on your computer, only the Web site that created the cookie can read it.
There are several types of cookies, and you can choose whether to allow some, none, or all of them to be saved on your computer:
- A persistent cookie remains stored on your computer when you close your Internet browser window. The cookie can be read by the Web site that created it when you visit that site again.
- A temporary or session cookie is stored only for your current browsing session and is deleted from your computer when you close your Internet browser.
If your settings do not allow cookies at all, you may have trouble changing to another Office Online site from the Office Worldwide page.
To return to your original language
If you select an Office Online site in a language that is different from the language of the Office program installed on your computer, you may see information displayed in a mixture of the two languages. If you want to revert to seeing content in a single language, go to the Office Worldwide page and select the Office Online Web site that corresponds to the language of your installed program. You can always choose to browse content again later from any of the Office Online sites by going back to the Office Worldwide page and changing your settings.
If you inadvertently select a site in a language with which you are unfamiliar, you can return to your original language by clicking the Office Worldwide link at the bottom of the Microsoft Office Online home page. In all languages, this link is signified by a globe:
Clicking this link always takes you to the Office Worldwide page. If there is a difference between your Internet browser language settings and the language of the current Office Online site, the Office Worldwide page identifies all available sites in both languages to ensure that you can find your original site in the list.
