Open a subdocument from within a master document
 
  1. On the View menu, click Outline.
  2. If the subdocuments are collapsed, click Expand Subdocuments Button image on the Outlining toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, click Customize on the Tools menu, and then click the Toolbars tab.).
  3. If a subdocument is locked (a lock icon appears below the subdocument icon Small lock icon), unlock the subdocument.

    ShowHow?

    1. Click anywhere in the subdocument you want to unlock.
    2. On the Outlining toolbar, click Lock Document Button image.
  4. Double-click the subdocument icon Subdocument icon of the subdocument you want to open.

  5. To close the subdocument and return to the master document (master document: A "container" for a set of separate files (or subdocuments). You can use a master document to set up and manage a multipart document, such as a book with several chapters.), click Close on the File menu.

Note  If you share the master document with a workgroup, collapse the subdocuments before you close the master document so that others can gain access to them.
