Use the Word 2000 style of revision marks in later versions of Word

Applies to: Microsoft Office Word 2003

Applies to
Microsoft Office Word 2003
Microsoft Word 2002

If you're one of those Word 2002 or Word 2003 users who prefers the way Word 2000 handles revision marks, you're not alone.

Word 2000 indicates deleted text with strikethrough formatting, and it underlines new text. However, when you track your changes in Word 2002 or Word 2003, your revisions appear in balloons that are located at the right side of your document. If you prefer the Word 2000 style of revision marks, here's how you can use the 2000 style in your version of Word:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Track Changes tab.
  2. In the Use Balloons (Print and Web Layout) box, select either Never or Only for comments/formatting.

Note   In Word 2002, clear the Use balloons in Print and Web Layout check box.
