Word has nine built–in heading styles.
You can mark the text you want to include in your TOC in the following ways:
- Applying heading styles
- Creating a document outline
- Creating custom styles
Using Word's built-in heading styles to format your documents is probably the easiest way to mark your text. Simply format your text with one of the nine predefined heading levels and create the TOC.
Ease of use and speed are the great advantages of using heading styles.
This lesson will focus on creating a TOC by applying heading styles. Lesson 3 will cover the other options in greater detail.
