Remove personal information from an online fax you have received

In Microsoft Office Document Imaging, you can open Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) (Tagged Image File Format (TIFF): A high-resolution, tag-based graphics format. TIFF is used for the universal interchange of digital graphics.) files with multiple pages, and add, rearrange, or remove pages. This gives you the ability for example to remove the cover sheet from an online fax (a fax image created by a fax program or print driver that you can view on your computer) you have received in case you want to forward the fax pages on to another person without the personal information included on the cover sheet.

Warning   It is recommended that you use a cover sheet and complete the To and Subject fields to ensure that your fax reaches the intended recipient. For example, if you are sending a fax to a corporate fax machine, the receiving company will refer to the cover sheet for information about who to give the fax to. This procedure is given as an example for making changes to a fax that you have received.

Black out any additional personal information

If you are removing a fax cover sheet in order to remove all personal information before forwarding fax pages to another person, check the fax pages carefully to make sure personal information (name, phone number) is not repeated in the header and footer of the fax pages. If the fax pages contain personal information that you don't want another person to view, you can black out this information by doing the following:

  1. In Microsoft Office Document Imaging, make sure the information you want to black out is visible on screen.
  2. On the Annotations toolbar, click the arrow next to Pen Pen button image, and then click Pen Settings.
  3. On the Pen Settings tab, select a pen in the Current pens list, such as Medium Chisel.
  4. In the Thickness list, select the thickest setting, Chisel Marker (10.5 mm), and then click OK.
  5. Select the text on the document that you do not want anyone else to see.
