Find the Fax Wizard

When you send a fax, you can use either the Fax Wizard that is included with Word or a fax service provider.

The Fax Wizard is typically installed when you install Word. If the Fax Wizard wasn't automatically installed, you can install the wizard by adding it in Control Panel.

Use the Fax Wizard that is included with Word

  1. On the File menu, click New.
  2. In the New Document task pane, under Templates, click On my computer.
  3. In the Templates dialog box, click the Letters & Faxes tab, click Fax Wizard, and then click OK.

Note   To fax a document to someone, you must also have a fax program, such as Microsoft Fax software, installed on your computer.

Install the Fax Wizard

If you can't find the Fax Wizard, it's possible that it was never installed. To make all templates and wizards that come with Word available on your computer, run the Setup program again to install Wizards and Templates.

If you originally installed Microsoft Office Word 2003 from a network file server or from a shared folder, you must run Setup from that location. If you installed Word from a CD-ROM, you must run Setup from the CD-ROM.

  1. Exit all programs.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If your computer runs Microsoft Windows 2000, double-click Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
    • If your computer runs Microsoft Windows XP and you use Category View, click Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs again.
    • If your computer runs Microsoft Windows XP and you use Classic View, click Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
  3. In the Currently installed programs box, click the listing for Microsoft Office or Microsoft Word, depending on whether you installed Word as part of Microsoft Office or as an individual program, and then click Change.
  4. On the Maintenance Mode Options screen, click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
  5. If a Custom Setup screen appears, select the Choose advanced customization of applications check box, and then click Next.
  6. In the list of features to install, click the expand indicator (+) next to Microsoft Office.
  7. Expand Microsoft Office Word, and then expand Wizards and Templates.
  8. Click the arrow next to More Templates and Macros, and then click Run from My Computer.
  9. Click Update.
  10. Restart Word.
