Field codes: Section field

The Section field inserts the number of the current section (section: A portion of a document in which you set certain page formatting options. You create a new section when you want to change such properties as line numbering, number of columns, or headers and footers.).

Syntax

When you view the Section field in your document, the syntax looks like this:

{ SECTION }

 Note    A field code tells the field what to show. Field results are what’s shown in the document after having evaluated the field code. To toggle between viewing the field code and the field code results, press Alt+F9.

Example

To print text such as "Page 4 of Section 2" on each page of a document, insert the following fields and text in the header or footer (header and footer: A header, which can consist of text or graphics, appears at the top of every page in a section. A footer appears at the bottom of every page. Headers and footers often contain page numbers, chapter titles, dates, and author names.):

Page { PAGE } of Section { SECTION }
