Field codes: Author field

The Author field inserts the author name from the Summary tab in the Properties dialog box. To view the Properties dialog box, click the File tab, click Info, and click Properties (below the document preview on the right side), and then click Advanced Properties.

The author name for a new document or template (template: A file or files that contain the structure and tools for shaping such elements as the style and page layout of finished files. For example, Word templates can shape a single document, and FrontPage templates can shape an entire Web site.) is initially the name specified in the User name box in the Word Options dialog box. To view the User name box, click the File tab, click Options, and then click General. The User name box is located under Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office.

When you view the Author field code in your document, the syntax looks like this:

{ AUTHOR [ "NewName" ] }

 Note    A field code tells the field what to show. Field results are what is shown in the document after having evaluated the field code. To toggle between viewing the field code and the field code results, press Alt+F9.

Optional text that replaces the author name in the Properties dialog box for the active document (active document: The document in which you're working. Text you type or graphics you insert in Microsoft Word appear in the active document. The title bar of the active document is highlighted.) or template. The name can be as long as 255 characters and must be enclosed in quotation marks.
