Why can't I open this file?

Having trouble opening a file? It’s probably in a file format that this version of Word doesn’t support. Check the tables below to see if that’s the case, and to see what you can and can’t do with files that are supported.

 Note    You can’t open IRM-protected files.

 Important    Macros are preserved for .doc and .docm format; however, any files created from .dot or .dotm files will NOT contain associated macros.
