Embed a slide show in your blog

Blogging about your adventures is an easy way to reach a wide audience of family and friends, but linking to a lot of pictures can be a chore. Instead, put together a photo album in PowerPoint, store it in SkyDrive, and embed it in your blog. Your readers can advance through the slides right there in your post. If you update the slides in SkyDrive, your blog readers will automatically see the latest in the embedded view.

Embedded PowerPoint presentation

First, store your slide show in SkyDrive. Then, copy the embed code:

  1. In SkyDrive, right-click the presentation and then click Embed.
    Embed command
  2. Click Copy to copy the embed code to the clipboard (if you’re asked, allow access to the clipboard).

Next you’ll be pasting the code into your blog post. You’ll need to switch to HTML editing when it’s time to paste the embed code. That’s because the embed code goes in an HTML tag called iframe. If you use WordPress, don’t worry. Even though WordPress ordinarily doesn’t allow iframes in posts, an exception is made for iframes that host Office Web Apps.

In your blog editor, begin writing your post. When you want to embed your slide show, switch to HTML editing and press Ctrl+V to paste the embed code.

 Notes

  • In TypePad don’t use the Quick Compose editor. Go to Blogs, click the name of your blog, and then click Compose, where you can switch from Rich Text to HTML editing.
  • In WordPress, don’t use the New Post command at the top of the page. Go to your blog’s dashboard and click Posts > Add New, where you can use HTML editing.
