About Reduced Functionality Mode

If you do not activate Microsoft Office Visio after you install it, Visio starts in Reduced Functionality Mode.

In Reduced Functionality Mode, you will not be able to create new drawings or modify existing drawings. Additionally, you will not be able to:

  • Create new files.
  • Save modifications to existing documents.
  • Cut, copy, or paste content, including using the Paste Special command, or put content on the Clipboard.
  • Import or export data.
  • Use Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and the Visio object model.
  • Enable existing macros or create new macros.
  • Access the ShapeSheet window.
  • Access or assign custom properties or shape properties.
  • Display anchored windows.
  • Display stencils, including custom stencils.

You can, however, open, close, and print existing drawings in Reduced Functionality Mode. Your existing Visio files will not be harmed, and you can easily get Visio out of this mode by following all the instructions in the Microsoft Office Visio Activation Wizard. To open the wizard, on the Help menu, click Activate Product.
