You can share a Microsoft Office Visio drawing with someone who does not have Visio, as long as they have the Microsoft Office Visio Viewer installed. The Visio Viewer is an ActiveX control that you can use to open and view Visio drawings. When
you open a Visio file using the Visio Viewer, the drawing is displayed in a Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or
later) window.
Note You and the people you share your drawing with can download the Visio Viewer from the Microsoft Download Center. Drawings created in Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003 will only open in the Visio Viewer 2003, not in earlier versions.
What you can open with the Visio Viewer
- Visio drawing (.vsd) files saved in version 5.0, 2000, 2002, or later.
- Visio XML drawing format (.vdx) files saved in version 2002 or later.
Tip
If someone you're sharing your drawing with can't open the drawing in the Visio Viewer, they may have an outdated version of the Visio Viewer. They can download the latest version from the Microsoft Download Center.
Ways you can share your drawing
- Send the drawing file to recipients as an e-mail attachment.
- Post the drawing file on an intranet site or to a shared network location.
- Incorporate a Visio drawing into a Web page, in its native Visio file format.
