Create a master that can link to any record in a database table

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Add-Ons, point to Visio Extras, and then click Database Wizard.
  2. On the first wizard page, click Next.
  3. Choose Link shapes to database records.
  4. Choose either Master(s) on a document stencil or Master(s) on a Visio stencil.
  5. Check the Open Copy box, and click Browse to find a Visio stencil. (Visio stencils are typically in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio 11\1033.)
  6. When you reach the Link ShapeSheet cells to database fields screen, make sure all available database fields are linked to cells.
  7. Follow the remaining wizard pages.
  8. After you finish the wizard, save the stencil containing the linked master(s) with a name and location that's easy to find later. (The stencil will have opened as you went through the wizard.)
