About reviewing

You can use the Track Markup feature in Microsoft Office Visio to easily make and view proposed changes in a drawing. The proposed changes, or markup, are tracked on a separate colored and tabbed overlay for each person who opens the drawing.

A drawing with markup overlay tabs of different colors.

With Track Markup turned on, shapes, ink shapes, or comments that you or your reviewers add are tracked on markup overlays without changing the original drawing.

Markup overlays keep markup separate from the original drawing.

Markup overlays Callout 1 and Callout 2 hold the markup made by two different reviewers, and Callout 3 the original drawing remains untouched. Callout 4 Shows the marked up drawing as it appears on your screen.

You can share a separate copy of the drawing with each reviewer, or make the original drawing available to a group of reviewers by saving the drawing to a network share, posting the drawing to an intranet site, or creating a document workspace. Using a network share, intranet site, document workspace, or other accessible central location allows you to capture all reviewers’ markup in one file. (For information about document workspaces, open the Shared Workspace task pane. On the View menu, click Task Pane, click the arrow in the task pane title bar, and then click Shared Workspace.)

Note  Each reviewer must use Microsoft Office Visio 2003 to add markup.
