You can add a link to either a specific shape or to a drawing page. The link can go to a shape or page in a Microsoft Office Visio drawing, a document other than a Visio drawing, or a Web site.
Link to a Visio drawing
- Make sure the file you're linking to has been saved.
- Select the shape or display the page (with nothing selected) that you want to add a link to.
- On the Insert menu, click Hyperlinks.
- In the Address box, click Browse, and then click Local file. Navigate to the file you want, and then click Open.
Tip
If you don't see the file you want, try changing the Files of type list.
- To link to a specific page or shape on a page, or to choose a zoom level, click Browse next to Sub-address.
How
- Choose which page you want to link to.
- Type the name of a shape you want to link to. To find a shape name, right-click the shape, point to Format, and then click Special. The text in the Name field is the shape name.
- Choose whether to zoom in on the shape or the center of the page.
- Type a name for the link. This text will be displayed when you pause the mouse pointer over the link.
- To create a relative link, check the Use relative path for hyperlink check box. For more information see About relative versus absolute paths to hyperlinks.
Tip
If this check box is disabled, save your drawing to enable it.
- To add another hyperlink to the page or selected shape, click New and then repeat steps 4-7.
Link to a document other than a Visio drawing
- Make sure the file you're linking to has been saved.
- Select the shape or display the page (with nothing selected) that you want to add a link to.
- On the Insert menu, click Hyperlinks.
- In the Address box, click Browse, and then click Local file. Navigate to the file you want, and then click Open.
- To create a relative link, select the Use relative path for hyperlink check box. For more information see About relative versus absolute paths to hyperlinks.
- To add another hyperlink to the page or selected shape, click New and then repeat steps 4-6.
To link to a Web site
- Select the shape or display the page (with nothing selected) that you want to add a link to.
- On the Insert menu, click Hyperlinks.
- In the Address box type the Web site's URL, starting with the protocol (such as http://) or click Browse to find the site.
How
- Click Browse and then click Internet Address.
- Navigate to the Web site you want to link to.
- To link to an anchor (a jump to a section of a Web site), click the link at the top of the Web page that takes you to that section.
- Go back to your Visio drawing before closing your browser to automatically set the Address and Sub-address fields of the Hyperlinks dialog box.
- Click Browse next to Sub-address to set a zoom level.
- To add another hyperlink to the page or selected shape, click New and then repeat steps 3 and 4.
