Assign a master to a layer
The steps you take to assign a master to a layer depend on whether the master is one you create yourself or one that comes with Microsoft Office Visio. To assign a Visio master to a layer or change its layer settings, you must first copy the Visio master to your Favorites stencil or another custom stencil. For a master that you create, you can work with it in the custom stencil it lives in. Assign a custom master to a layer
- Open the stencil that contains the master you want to use and make the stencil editable.
How
- On the File menu, point to Shapes, point to My Shapes, and then click the name of the stencil.
- In your Favorites stencil or another custom stencil that you previously created, right-click the stencil title bar and click Edit Stencil.
- Right-click the master, point to Edit Master, and then click Edit Master Shape.
- In the master drawing window, select the master.
- On the Format menu, click Layer.
- In the New Layer dialog box, type a name for the layer to which you want to assign the master, and then click OK.
- To assign the master to another layer, click New and repeat step 5.
- To close the master drawing window, click Close
. When you are prompted to update the master, click Yes.
- To save your changes, right-click the stencil title bar, and then click Save.
- To turn stencil editing off, right-click the stencil title bar, and then click Edit.
