You captured your brainstorming session in a Microsoft Office Visio® 2003 diagram. Now you need to flesh out those ideas, and get into more detail. It’s easy to export your Visio diagram to Microsoft Office Word, where you can rewrite, expand, and edit ideas, with all the advantages and flexibility of word-processing. It’s the best of both worlds.

Visio 2003 is open showing a completed Brainstorming diagram.

After a great brainstorming session with my colleagues, I want to use the ideas that came up to start a project outline.

The mouse pointer moves over the contents of the diagram and up to the menu bar, where it opens the Brainstorming menu, points to Export Data, and selects To Microsoft Office Word from the submenu. The File Save dialog box opens. Without changing the default text in the Save in box or File name box, the pointer clicks the Save button, and the File Save dialog box closes.

Since I used Visio 2003 to create the brainstorming diagram, I can easily export those ideas into a Word 2003 outline.

I simply go into the Brainstorming menu in Visio and choose to export my data into Word.

The scene changes to an open Word document displaying the topics and subtopics from the Visio Brainstorming diagram in Web Layout view. The pointer opens the View menu and selects Outline to display the text in an outline format.

Now, here I am in Word, and there are the topics from my brainstorming session.

I’ll switch to Outline view to make the relationships between these ideas a little easier to see.

The pointer clicks in the body of the outline and a new subtopic is typed in.

Now I can add project details directly into my document, and I’ll be able to use it as a starting point for my project plan, too!

The scene changes back to the original Visio diagram.

By combining the power of Visio 2003 and Word 2003, I was able to save time, be more productive, and get a jump on this project.

Visio 2003 disappears. The animated text Experience your own great moments appears. Under it appears the URL http://www.microsoft.com/office.
