Reuse a logo by making it a Visio shape

Applies to
Microsoft Office Visio® 2003

Adding your company logo to an organization chart, flowchart, or any other Visio drawing can be as easy as dragging a shape onto the drawing page. You can convert your logo to a reusable shape in three simple steps:

  1. Save the logo in a format Visio can import.
  2. Import the graphic into Visio.
  3. Add the graphic to a stencil so you and others can drag it into drawings.
Logo saved to a custom stencil

After you convert a logo to a reusable shape on a stencil, you can drag it into any Visio drawing.

To save the logo in a format Visio can import

  • In the program where you created the logo, save the logo file in a format that Visio can import. These include Windows Bitmap (BMP), Windows Metafile (WMF), and Tag Image File Format (TIF) formats.

To import a logo into Visio

  1. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
  2. Browse to locate the file, select it, and then click Open.

The logo or image appears in the center of the Visio drawing page.

To add the logo to an existing custom stencil

  1. In Visio, on the File menu, point to Shapes, point to My Shapes, and then click the custom stencil you want to add the logo to.
  2. Click the icon on the left side of the stencil title bar, and then click Edit.

A red asterisk appears on the stencil icon to indicate that the stencil is editable.

  3. Drag the logo from the drawing page onto the stencil.
  4. Click the text below the new logo master on the stencil, and then type the name you want for the logo.
  5. Click the stencil icon, and then choose Save.

The next time you open the stencil, you can drag the new logo shape onto a drawing page as you would any other shape on a stencil.

To add the logo to a new custom stencil

  1. In Visio, on the File menu, point to Shapes, and then click New Stencil.

A red asterisk appears on the stencil icon to indicate that the stencil is editable.

  2. Drag the logo from the drawing page onto the stencil.
  3. Click the text below the new logo master on the stencil, and then type the new name you want for the logo.
  4. Click the stencil icon, and then choose Save As, type a new name for the stencil, and then click Save.

The next time you open the stencil, you can drag the new logo shape onto a drawing page as you would any other shape on a stencil.
