Convert ink to geometry or text

You can convert an ink shape to geometry so you can apply Microsoft Office Visio line formatting to it. You can also convert ink handwriting to text for ink shapes created on a tablet computer.

  • Right-click the ink shape you want to convert, and then click Convert Ink to Text or Convert Ink to Geometry.

Convert Ink to Text is available only if the ink shape was created on a tablet computer.

After an ink shape is converted to geometry or text, you can't delete portions of the shape using the Erase Tool Button image. For text, use the Text Tool Button image to select text and then use the keyboard or the Delete tool Button image to delete letters from text. For geometry, use the Pencil Tool Button image on the Drawing toolbar to select a vertex Vertices handle image and then delete it from a shape.

After an ink shape is converted to geometry or text, you can't edit it using the Ink Tool Button image. To edit ink that has been converted to text, click the Text Tool Button image, click the shape, and then edit the text. To edit ink that has been converted to geometry, select the shape and then drag a vertex Vertices handle image, selection handle Selection handle image, or rotation handle Button Image. You can also use tools on the Formatting toolbar to change the appearance of a shape.
