Add a background design to a Visio 2002 diagram

A background design can make your diagram look better, reinforce its message, and clarify its intention.

Background design for project timeline

To find and add a background design

  1. Open the diagram you want to add the design to.
  2. On the File menu, point to Stencils, and then click Open Stencils.
  3. Double-click the Visio Extras folder, click Backgrounds.vss, and then click Open.
  4. Drag the design you want onto your drawing page.
  5. Click Yes when Visio asks if you want the shape to be the background image for the page.

To apply a color scheme

  1. Right-click the drawing page, and then click Color Schemes.
  2. Click a color scheme, and then click Apply to see how the colors look.
  3. When you find one you want, click OK.
