The Options tab of the Junk E-mail Options dialog box.

The second very important thing you can do to optimize your filter is to tell it just how much protection you want.

To do this, you go to the Options tab of the Junk E-mail Options dialog box:

Callout 1 To block only those messages coming from the senders on your Blocked Senders List, select No Automatic Filtering. This gives you the lowest level of protection.
Callout 2 To allow into your Inbox only those messages that are sent to or from someone on one of your safe lists, select Safe Lists Only. This gives you the highest level of protection.
Callout 3 Between these levels are two others, named Low and High, which employ not only your customized lists but also the filter's general knowledge about junk mail characteristics.
Callout 4 Below these buttons are other options for fine-tuning the ways in which Outlook handles suspected junk messages.

To see two fast ways to get to this very important dialog box, click Play video, above. (In case you've muted sound on your computer, be aware that the video has narration.)

When the video's finished, close the video window, and click Next in this course to go to the next topic.
