What time looks like to you.

What time looks like to Excel.

When you type a time into a worksheet, Excel sees the information differently than you do. To you, 12:00 AM is the time of day expressed in hours and minutes. To Excel, 12:00 AM is decimal number 0, and 12:00 PM is decimal number 0.5. In this lesson you'll learn how Excel's view of times enables it to do time arithmetic, and how to type times in a format that Excel can understand. Learning a little about times before you do the math will save you time later on.
