Suppose you need to work on a list of sales figures that will be handed off in an hour for a manager's meeting. There's no concern about updating the data later on, so you can import the text file by using the File menu method:
On the File menu, you click Open. Then you complete the rest of the steps to open the file, as shown in the picture. Finally, the Text Import Wizard will open. (Later in the lesson you'll see how to use the wizard.)
Note When you import a .csv file by using the File menu method, the file opens directly in Excel without using the Text Import Wizard. This is fine if you want to open a .csv file really fast.
On the other hand, if you want the benefit of using the options in the Text Import Wizard, you might prefer to import the file using the Data menu method (coming up next).
