Take audio and video notes

Audio time gauge and highlighted text notes with a clock in the background

The Audio gauge shows the audio playback, and the text notes taken at that specific moment of the audio recording are highlighted in blue.

To play back a recording, click the recording symbol to the left of the note's date and time, or click anywhere in the text notes and then click Play (you'll find the Play command on both the Audio and Video Recording toolbar and the Audio and Video Recording submenu (Tools menu).

There are some great aids in OneNote to help you out when you're playing back notes:

  • The Audio gauge on the Audio and Video Recording toolbar shows where in the recording you are (see the picture on the left).

You can also click the gauge to jump to any part of the recording.

Click the arrows at either end of the Audio gauge to "fast forward" and "rewind" through the recording. You can also drag the slider on the gauge to jump to any part of the recording.

  • The See Playback button switches on (or off) the highlighting that shows areas of text that were written simultaneously with the audio. In the picture on the left, the text "Attendees" is highlighted.

Note    The text and audio are tied to each other as the audio is recorded, whether the See Playback button is selected or not.
