Work with a database you didn't create

Magnifying glass looking into a database

Look inside the database to determine its contents and structure.

Before you even enter data into a database that somebody else made, you need to find out how that database is designed.

What types of forms, queries, and reports does it have?

How many tables does it store data in? How is the data in those tables related? Which database objects depend on each other?

All this is still more important to know if you want to modify a database you didn't create.
