Error code 30033-27 when installing Office

Getting a “Something went wrong” message when installing Office on your computer isn’t fun and trying to fix the problem can be frustrating. To help determine the steps you’ll need to take, check the bottom of the message for an error code.

If you see Error Code: 30033-27, go to the Fix install error code 30033-27 section in this article.

If there’s a different error code, or, if the install error message is different, go to the Other Office install errors section in this article.

Fix install error code 30033-27

Before you try the steps below, close the error message, restart your computer and try installing Office again. You should also check your updates to make sure all critical updates are installed on your computer. If the problem continues, try these other steps one a time:

ShowRun an Online Repair of Office

  1. Close the error message.
  2. Open Control Panel.
  3. Go to Programs and Features.
  4. In the list of installed programs, search for the latest version of Office, click it, and click Change.
  5. Click Online Repair, and then click Repair.

ShowRun the Office 2013 uninstall Fix it

  1. Close the error message and restart your computer.
  2. Run this Fix it. It will remove previous installs of Office 2013 or Office 365.

Uninstall Office 2013 or Office 365

 Important    When you click the Fix it, a dialog box appears that provides options to Open, Save or Cancel. If you click Open you might have problems running the Fix it. Instead, click Save in the File Download dialog box. When the download is done, click Open folder, find the file (the name of the file should start with “O15CTRRemove”) and double-click it to run the Fix it.

  1. Once the Fix it has successfully removed Office 2013 or Office 365, try to install Office again.

ShowTemporarily turn off the antivirus

Turn off the antivirus on your computer, install Office and turn the antivirus back on.

If you need information on how to turn off your antivirus, check which antivirus is on your computer and visit the manufacturer’s website for information. If you don’t know which antivirus is on the computer, follow these steps:

ShowOn a Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 PC

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security.
  3. Under Action Center, click Review your computer’s status and resolve issues.
  4. Click Security to find the name of the antivirus software.

ShowOn a Windows 7 PC

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security.
  3. Under Action Center, click Review your computer’s status.
  4. Click Security to find the name of the antivirus software.

ShowTemporarily turn off the firewall

Turn off the firewall on your computer, install Office and turn the firewall back on.

On a Windows 8 or 8.1 PC, follow these steps to turn Windows Firewall off and on.

On a Windows 7 PC, follow these steps to turn Windows Firewall off and on.

If you’re using a firewall from another manufacturer, visit their website for information on how to temporarily disable the firewall.
