Most organizations today are faced with an increasing volume of content that needs to be managed in order to maintain business advantage and manage compliance and legal risks. Given the diverse types of content, organizations have multiple Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions from different vendors for addressing different needs. Microsoft offers two options for organizations looking to extend their existing FileNet solutions with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

Integrating Microsoft's ECM solution with existing FileNet solutions

FileNet and Microsoft recently announced a partnership to provide deeper integration between FileNet's ECM platform and Office SharePoint Server 2007. With this integration, existing FileNet customers can now take advantage of the ease of use, familiar interface, and favorable price points of Office SharePoint Server 2007 to extend the benefits of ECM to every employee in their organization. FileNet customers will be able to:

• Work within the familiar and easy-to-use Office SharePoint Server 2007 content management interface to browse, extract, and store content to and from the FileNet repository.
• Interact with content and workflows in the FileNet system, using the familiar Microsoft Office interface.
• Search the FileNet repository and other line-of-business systems using the single search engine that is part of Office SharePoint Server 2007.

The current roadmap is to have this integration available by the second quarter of 2007. The latest information can be obtained from your FileNet rep. Read more information regarding SharePoint Portal Server 2003 integration. More information will be available as the product is ready for release.

The following FileNet products will be integrated: P8 Content Manager, Records Manager, and Business Process Manager.

In addition, several additional software and services are necessary for this integration. There are three FileNet-SharePoint connectors: the Connector for Document Libraries (document copy and move); the WebParts Connector (browse, search, BPM tasks); and the Search Connector (Protocol Handler).
