Step 8: Test the Home Page of the Portal Site

You should again ensure that you can access the home page of the portal site by using HTTP and HTTPS with the NETBIOS name of the computer. To do this, open a browser and type the URL for the portal site, using the NETBIOS name of the server.

If you do not know the NETBIOS name of your server, do the following:

  1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Type hostname, and then press ENTER. The NETBIOS name is displayed.

Note   If you have configured IIS with a different port than port 80 (for http) and 443 (for https) for the portal site, you must include the port number in the URL, such as http://server_name:9000 or https://server_name:9001.

When you attempt to access the portal site by using http, you should see a page that states, "The page must be viewed over a secure channel."

If you receive a security alert regarding revocation information when you access the portal site with https, click Yes to proceed.

When you receive a security alert stating that the certificate name is invalid or does not match the name of the site when you access the portal site with https, click Yes to proceed.

If the home page of the portal site does not display, see the "Troubleshooting" section at the end of this paper.
