If you use Microsoft Certificate Services, use the following
steps to request a server certificate from the certificate server.
The following procedure is based on Microsoft Certificate Services
installed on Windows Server 2003. The user interface will be
slightly different if you are using Microsoft Certificate Services
installed on Windows 2000 Server.
Note If you use another
certificate authority (CA), use the steps supplied by the CA
provider.
- In your Web browser, enter the URL of the CA server.
- On the Welcome page, click Request a certificate.
- On the Request a Certificate page, click advanced
certificate request.
- On the Advanced Certificate Request page, click Submit a
certificate request by using a base-64-encoded CMC or PKCS #10
file, or submit a renewal request by using a base-64-encoded PKCS
#7 file.
- Leave the Web browser open on the Submit a Certificate Request
or Renewal Request page and do the following:
- Open Certreq.txt in the directory
<drive>:\Certificates\common_name. This is the
directory that you created in the procedure in the "Create a server
certificate by using the Certificate Wizard" step.
- Select and copy the contents of the file, and then close the
text editor.
- Return to the Submit a Certificate Request or Renewal Request
page.
- Paste the copied text into the Saved Request box, and
then click Submit.
- On the Certificate Issued page, do the following:
- Leave the DER encoded option selected.
- Click Download certificate.
- In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
- In the Save As dialog box, navigate to
<drive>:\Certificates\common_name.
- Click Save.
- Click Close to close the Download Complete dialog
box.
- Click Download certificate chain.
- In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
- In the Save As dialog box, navigate to
<drive>:\Certificates\common_name.
- Click Save.
- Click Close to close the Download Complete dialog
box.
Note If you are using
Microsoft Certificate Services, it is important to save the .P7B
file.
- Close the Web browser.
