Step 11: Test the Home Page of the Portal Site

After testing the NETBIOS server name for each of the front-end Web servers in your server farm, you must test the common name of your server farm.

If you have not required SSL on the front-end Web servers:

You should test that you can access the home page of the portal site by using HTTP and HTTPS with the common name of your server farm. To do this, open a browser and type the URL for the portal site, using the common name of your server farm.

If you have required SSL on the front-end Web servers:

You should test that you can access the home page of the portal site by using only HTTPS with the common name of your server farm. To do this, open a browser and type the URL for the portal site, using the common name of your server farm.

Verify that when you attempt to access the portal site by using http, a page appears that states, "The page must be viewed over a secure channel."

If you receive a security alert regarding revocation information when you access the portal site with https, click Yes to proceed.

You should not receive a security alert stating that the certificate name is invalid or does not match the name of the site when you access the portal site with https.

If the home page of the portal site is not displayed, see the "Troubleshooting" section at the end of this paper for troubleshooting steps.
