This section describes the performance impact of some basic portal site operations. Single Sign-On OperationsSharePoint Portal Server has built-in single sign-on (SSO) support for writing solutions that access different back-end systems. These solutions store credentials that can be retrieved programmatically later. On a medium farm, the portal site can retrieve approximately 100 credentials per second and store approximately 90 credentials per second using the SSO interfaces.
