Create the Application Pool

First you must create the application pool for the virtual server that hosts the portal sites.

  1. On the taskbar, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. In the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager console, right-click Application Pools, point to New, and then click Application Pool.
  3. In the Add New Application Pool dialog box, in the Application pool ID box, type a name for the application pool.
  4. In the Application pool settings section, click Use default settings for new application pool.
  5. Click OK.

After you create the new application pool, modify the properties of the new application pool to ensure that the parameters on the Recycling, Performance, and Health tabs match the parameters for the default application pool. You can either use the same identity or specify a new identity on the Identity tab, depending on the purpose of the new application pool.

ShowTip

In step 4 of the preceding procedure, you can also choose the option to use an existing application pool as a template. To do this, click Use existing application pool as template, and then select MSSharePointPortalAppPool from the list. If you do this, you need to modify the identity only. The other properties (on the Recycling, Performance, and Health tabs) will match those of MSSharePointPortalAppPool.
