Enabling Client Certificates and Using Client Certificates When Crawling Content with SharePoint Portal Server 2003

Step 1: Enable SSL on All Front-End Web Servers on the Server Farm

Step 2: Obtain a Client Certificate

Step 3: Export the Client Certificate Without a Private Key (.Cer File) for Use on Front-End Web Servers

Step 4: Export the Client Certificate with a Private Key (.pfx File) for Use on Additional Client Computers and Index Management Servers

Step 5: Import the Client Certificate (.pfx File) to Computers from Which You Want to Access the Portal Site (Optional)

Step 6: Enable Client Certificate Mapping on the Front-End Web Servers

Step 7: Verify All Certificate Authorities

Step 8: Create a Certificate Trust List

Step 9: Test the Client Certificate

Step 10: Import the Certificate to the Personal Certificate Store for the Index Management Server
