See the different ways you can check out, edit, and check in your documents in Office SharePoint Server 2007
My name is Tom, and I write for Office Online. One of the most common tasks you will perform in Office SharePoint Server 2007 is checking a document in and out of a site.
Since most of us are used to creating and saving documents on our desktop or a personal folder, moving to a SharePoint site can be quite an adjustment. But once you learn the benefits of this, you won't turn back. For starters, your documents are stored securely, they're backed up, and you can access them from any location.
In this two-part demo, I'll show you how to check out, edit, and check in a document on a SharePoint site, first by using Windows Internet Explorer and then by using Office Word 2007.
Check out documents by using Windows Internet Explorer
In this demo, I'll use Windows Internet Explorer to browse to my document library and use the drop-down menu to check out and edit my document. I'll check it back in by using the commands available in Office Word 2007.

Check out documents by using Word 2007
In this demo, I'll use Office Word 2007 to open my document library and then my document. I'll check it out, edit it, and check it back in by using the commands available in Word 2007.

There are many more ways you can check out, edit, and check in a document on a SharePoint site thanks to the seamless integration between Office SharePoint Server 2007 and 2007 Microsoft Office system programs like Word 2007, Excel 2007, and Outlook 2007.
