When you create a Web page by using a browser, you will want to add content that is formatted. For example, you may want a particular phrase to appear in bold or italic, or you may want to add content that is formatted as a table. You can easily add formatted content to a page by using the HTML Editor feature of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. You can use the HTML Editor to edit content on any page for which you have contribute permissions.

Create a page by using a browser
- In the site where you want to create the page, on the Site Actions menu, click Create Page.
- In the URL Name box, type the file name for the page. This name appears in links throughout the site.
- In the Title box, you can accept the default title, which is the same as the URL Name, or you can type a new title for the page. In certain page layouts, the title appears in the upper-left corner of the page.
- In the Description box, type an optional description about the contents of the page. In certain page layouts, the description is displayed on the page.
- In the Page Layout section, select a layout for the page that you want to publish. The layout that you choose depends on the type of content that you want to publish or the template that your site designer wants you to use.
Note If you choose to create a Redirect Page, you cannot use the HTML Editor, because Redirect Pages do not have text content.
- Click Create. The page is created and opened for editing.

Open the HTML Editor
- Navigate to the page that you want to edit.
- On the Site Actions menu, click Edit Page.
Note This step is unnecessary if you want to edit a page that you just created, because a newly created page is already open for editing.
- Locate the Page Content section of the page. Its location depends on the page layout that you or the person who created the page chose when creating the page.
- In the Page Content section, click Edit Content. The HTML Editor toolbar appears.
Note Some page layouts contain a Page Content field control that displays the HTML Editor in a Web Page dialog box, rather than inline. If this is the case with the page layout that was used to create the page that you are editing, when you click Edit Content, the HTML Editor opens in a new window.

Edit page content by using the HTML Editor
The HTML Editor is a full-featured rich-text editor that also has an HTML source editing mode. In text editing mode, you can type and edit page content and see it as it is displayed on the published page. In HTML source editing mode, you can type and edit page content by using standard HTML.
Text editing mode allows you to:
- Select text or HTML elements.
- Apply styles and formatting to your selections.
- Insert HTML elements, such as tables and lists.
- Check the spelling of the content that you are editing.
- Search for text in the content that you are editing.
- Copy and paste formatted text, with paste options that let you keep some or all of the formatting of the pasted text.
- Adjust many of the properties of HTML elements by using menus.
HTML source editing mode allows you to:
- Adjust the attributes of HTML elements by editing the HTML directly. This gives you more precise control over your content and allows you to change some aspects of your content that cannot be changed by using text editing mode.
- Quickly move HTML elements around in your content by cutting and pasting. Because you can see the HTML tags, it is easy to select HTML elements by using the mouse or keyboard.
