We just mentioned that a calendar is simply a list on a SharePoint site. So, to create a new calendar, you'll start by creating a new list.
The easiest way to get started is to click Create under Site Actions. If Create is not available under yourSite Actions (its availability will depend on the permissions you've been given on the site and where you are in the site when you look for it), you can always click View All Site Content on the Quick Launch and then click Create on the All Site Content page.
