Using Visual Studio to create solutions on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server has typically been very complicated, but with this newest release of Office SharePoint Designer, it's gotten a lot easier. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use Visual Studio to create a custom site definition on the Office SharePoint Server. Plus, you'll also find out how to use that custom definition to create a new Site application on the server and customize that application in Office SharePoint Designer. Whether you want to create Event Handlers for List item creation or custom Work Flow Actions, this tutorial will get you started quickly — and teach you that deploying custom code is as easy as creating any solution in Visual Studio.

Chapter 2: Using the Data View Dashboard

Creating a Web Application that displays data from different data sources, and then shows the relationship of those sources to one another typically requires coding custom data source connections and custom coding on the pages to display that data. With Office SharePoint Designer 2007, you can achieve this scenario without writing any code — watch this tutorial now to see how just how quickly it can be done.

Modification of Web Parts, Web Part Zones, CSS, and page layout can be complex tasks. Office SharePoint Designer 2007 exposes these objects in taskpanes and dialogs so that their properties can be edited easily without needing to go into the code of the page. In this training, you'll find out how to modify Web Part zone properties and table cells to change the layout of the default page in a Windows SharePoint Services template. Plus, you'll also learn how to continue with the customizations by making some changes to Web Part classes referenced in core.css on the server.
