Set up a Publisher publication for a specific Avery product

If you plan to print your publication on a specific Avery label or paper product, you can quickly and easily select the Avery product you need in the Page Setup dialog box.

ShowStart with a publication wizard and then print on Avery paper

Although there are default page sizes associated with the different publication wizards available in Microsoft Publisher, many of these publications can also be set up to print on specific Avery paper or label products. For example, you can design postcards or business cards using one of Publisher's designs for these publication types, and then print these publications on Avery postcard or business card paper.

  1. On the File menu, click New.
  2. In the New Publication task pane, under New from a design, click Publications for Print.
  3. Click the publication that you want (for example, Business Cards or Postcards), and then click the design that you want in the Preview Gallery.
  4. Customize your publication with the changes that you want. For example, click Color Schemes or Font Schemes in the task pane to choose the colors and fonts you want.
  5. To replace placeholder text with your own text, click the placeholder text, and then type.
  6. Immediately before you plan to print, click Page Setup on the File menu to select the Avery product that you want to use.
  7. In the Page Setup dialog box, under publication type, click Label.

Note  All of the Avery product types available in Publisher will be listed under Label, including products other than labels, such as business cards and postcards.

  8. Under Page size, click the scroll arrows at the top or bottom of the list box to locate the Avery product number that you want.

    Notes

    • If you drag the scroll box, you may scroll through the list too quickly to see all of the available selections.
    • The products are listed in ascending numerical order, and then in alphanumeric order. Product numbers that begin with the letter "J" are designed for ink jet printers. Product numbers that begin with the letter "L" are designed for laser printers.
    • If you do not see the number that you want in the list, check the information that came with your Avery product. There may be other Avery product numbers that are available in Publisher that are equivalent in size and layout to the product that you have purchased. For example, to print to Avery 8763, you can select either Avery 5163 or 8163 in Publisher.
  9. Click the Avery product type that you want, and then click OK.

    Important

    • If you are creating postcards or business cards, you should avoid using any of the design and layout options available in the Postcard Options or Business Card Options option task panes after you set up your publication with an Avery product size. Selecting these options will reset your publication size to the default publication size for that publication wizard, and your publication might not print properly on the Avery product you are using.
    • If you created a business card with a portrait orientation using the Business Card wizard, selecting an Avery business card product size in the Page Setup dialog box, will change your business card to a landscape orientation if you allow Publisher to automatically adjust all wizard created design elements after you select your Avery publication size. To print business cards with portrait orientation on an Avery product, you will need to manually adjust your business card content to fit the page.

      ShowHow?

      1. After selecting the Avery product that you want in the Page Setup dialog box, click No when Publisher asks Do you want Publisher to adjust the wizard created design elements?

Your business card will be displayed in a portrait orientation, while the paper will be displayed in landscape orientation. You may need to click Zoom Out Button image a few times to see your entire publication.

      2. On the Objects tool bar, click Select Objects tool Button image, and then drag the selection box around the content of your business card.
      3. Click the Group button Button image that appears.
      4. To rotate the business card, point to the green rotation handle and rotate the publication until it fits on the page.
  10. To print your publication, click Print on the File menu, and then selection the options that you want.
