Flip or Rotate Graphics in Publisher 2000

Adjusting the position of graphics and other page elements is a task almost everyone does when they create or customize a publication. In Publisher 2000, you can flip or rotate a graphic so it's positioned how you want it on the page.

Flipping a Graphic

If you want your graphic to face the other direction, you can flip it horizontally or vertically. Flipping a graphic creates a mirror image of the original.

Flip a graphic to create a mirror image of the original

To flip a graphic

  1. Click the graphic you want to flip.
  2. Point to Rotate or Flip on the Arrange menu, and then click Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical.
    - Or -
Click the Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical buttons on the Formatting toolbar.

You can flip pictures, WordArt, and clip art, and also shapes, objects, and lines that were drawn in Publisher or a separate drawing program. You cannot flip text or tables.

Rotating a Graphic

Unlike flipping, rotating does not create a mirror image. Instead, it turns the graphic to a different angle. In Publisher, you can rotate a graphic sideways, upside down, or to an exact number of degrees. You can rotate any object, including text or tables.

To rotate a graphic manually

  1. Click the graphic you want to rotate.
  2. Hold down ALT and position the mouse pointer over a selection handle until you see the Rotate pointer.

To rotate a graphic to an exact number of degrees

  2. Point to Rotate or Flip on the Arrange menu, and then click Custom Rotate.
  3. Enter the angle you want in the Angle box.
    - Or -
Click a button in the Custom Rotate dialog box to rotate the graphic in five-degree increments.
  4. Click Close.
Rotating a Group of Objects

You can group objects, such as a picture and its caption, and then rotate them together. Grouping saves you time because you don't have to rotate each object individually.

To group objects

  1. Hold down SHIFT and click all the objects you want in the group.
  2. Click the Group Objects button in the lower-right corner of the selection box.
