A thumbnail graphic is a smaller version of a graphic on a Web page. When clicked, a thumbnail opens another Web page that contains the full-size version of the graphic. Thumbnails are frequently used as previews because they can be loaded much more quickly by a Web browser than full-size graphics.
To create a thumbnail graphic on your Web page, first make a copy of the full-size graphic and then resize it so it is smaller than the original. Then, create a hyperlink to a page that contains the full-size version.
To create a thumbnail graphic
- On your Web page, click the graphic you want to make a thumbnail for.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
You now have two copies of the same graphic, one on top of the other.
- Position the mouse pointer over one of the handles of the graphic on top until you see the Resize cursor.
- Hold down the mouse button and drag the handle to resize the object until it is approximately 1 square inch.
To create a hyperlink to another page that contains the full-size graphic
- Click the full-size graphic.
- On the Edit menu, click Cut.
- Navigate to the page you want to place the full-size graphic on.
If necessary, insert a new page.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- Navigate to the page that the thumbnail graphic is on.
- Click the thumbnail graphic.
- Insert menu, click Hyperlink.
- Under Create a hyperlink to, click Another page in your Web site.
- Under Hyperlink information, select the page that contains the full-size graphic.
- Click OK.
- Position the thumbnail graphic in the desired place on the Web page.
- Add a text frame under the thumbnail graphic, and then type the size, in kilobytes, of the full-size graphic that the hyperlink jumps to.
