The feature or some of the options described in this Help topic are only available if support for a South Asian or right-to-left language is enabled through Microsoft Office Language Settings.
Find text
- On the Edit menu, click Find.
- In the Find what box, do one of the following:
- Type the text that you want to find. If you have recently searched for a character, word, or phrase and want to search for it again, click the down arrow, and then choose it from the list.
- If you want to find a special character, such as a tab or an end-of-paragraph mark, type the appropriate character combination listed in the table below.

- Under Find options, select the options that you want for matching diacritics (diacritics: Markings that are printed above, below, or next to a character that indicate how to pronounce it.) or clusters, alef hamzas (Alef Hamzas: A single Arabic character that represents the two-character combination Alef plus Hamza.), or kashidas (kashidas: Special characters used to extend the joiner between two Arabic characters. Used to improve the appearance of justified text by visually lengthening words rather than increasing the spacing between words. Can also function like a hyphen.).
- Click Find Next.
Find and replace text
- On the Edit menu, click Replace.
- In the Find what box, type the text or punctuation that you want to find.
- In the Replace with box, type the replacement text. To delete the text you're searching for, leave the box empty.
- Under Find options, select the options you want for matching diacritics (diacritics: Markings that are printed above, below, or next to a character that indicate how to pronounce it.) or clusters, alef hamzas (Alef Hamzas: A single Arabic character that represents the two-character combination Alef plus Hamza.), or kashidas (kashidas: Special characters used to extend the joiner between two Arabic characters. Used to improve the appearance of justified text by visually lengthening words rather than increasing the spacing between words. Can also function like a hyphen.).
- Click Find Next to find the next occurrence of the text.
- Do one of the following:
- Click Replace if you want to change it.
- Click Replace All to replace all occurrences.
- Click Find Next to continue searching.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 until Publisher displays a message that you have reached the end of the text.
