Create and print a banner, poster, or other large publication

When you select Banner, Poster, or a Custom publication greater than 8.5" x 11" in page setup, Microsoft Publisher prints a publication that is larger than a single sheet of paper.

 Note   Printing to a large format printer is not supported in Publisher 2003.

ShowCreate and print a banner

  1. On the File menu, click New.
  2. In the New Publication task pane (task pane: A window within an Office program that provides commonly used commands. Its location and small size allow you to use these commands while still working on your files.), under New from a design, click Publications for Print, and then click Banners.
  3. In the Preview Gallery, click the banner design you want.
  4. Do any of the following:
    • To change the width and height of the banner, choose an option under Width and Height in the task pane.
    • To change the publication's color scheme, click Color Schemes in the task pane.
    • To change the publication's font scheme, click Font Schemes in the task pane.
  5. In your publication, replace the placeholder text and pictures with your own or with other text and objects.

ShowWith Clip Art

  1. Right-click the picture frame, point to Change Picture, and then click Clip Art.
  2. In the Search for box, type a word or phrase that describes the clip you want.
  3. To narrow your search, do one or both of the following:
    • To limit search results to a specific collection of clips, in the Search in box, select the collection you want to search.
    • To limit search results to a specific type of media file, in the Results should be box, select the check box next to the types of clips you want to find.
    • Click Go.
  4. In the search results window of the Clip Art task pane, click the clip art you want.

ShowWith a picture from a file

  1. Right-click the picture frame, point to Change Picture, and then click From File.
  2. In the Insert Picture dialog box, locate the folder that contains the picture you want to insert, and then click the picture file.
  3. Do one of the following:

ShowWith a picture directly from a scanner or digital camera

  1. Right-click the picture frame, point to Change Picture, and then click From Scanner or Camera.
  2. If you have more than one device attached to your computer, select the device you want to use.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • If the selected device is a scanner and you want to use default settings for scanning the image, click Web Quality if you are going to display the picture on a screen, or Print Quality if you are going to print it, and then click Insert to scan your picture.
    • If the selected device is not a scanner (for example, if it is a digital camera), or if you want to customize any settings before you scan the picture, click Custom Insert, then follow the instructions that come with the device you're using.

 Note   The Insert button might be unavailable with some scanners because the scanner software doesn't support an automatic scan. Use the Custom Insert button instead.

ShowWith a picture using the Graphics Manager

  1. Right-click the picture frame, point to Change Picture, and then click Graphics Manager.
  2. In the Graphics Manager task pane, under Select a picture, click the arrow next to the empty picture frame you want to replace, and then click Insert Picture in This Frame.
  3. In the Insert Picture dialog box, click the picture you want.

If you don't see the picture you want, switch to the drive or folder it's in.

  1. Do one of the following:
  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. In the Save in box, select the folder where you want to save the new publication.
  3. In the File name box, type a name for your publication.
  4. In the Save as type box, select Publisher Files.
  5. Click Save.
  6. To print the banner, click Print on the File menu, and then click OK.

 Note   To print a banner to banner paper, you must use a printer that supports banner paper size. To determine whether the printer you're using supports banner paper, check the options available under Paper on the Printer and Paper tab in Page Setup.

ShowChange the overlap on a banner, poster, or large publication for printing

  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. Click Change Overlap.
  3. Under Printing Options click Print Entire Page.
  4. In the Overlap Sheets box, type the measurement you want.
  5. Click OK twice.

 Note   All desktop printers printers have a non-printing region at the margins.
