Each resource in Project Server 2003 and Project Web Access
must have a user account created before he or she can log on and
interact with project data. Project Server 2003 includes two
types of authentication for user accounts: Windows authentication
(domain accounts) and Project Server authentication (user name and
password accounts). Users with accounts of either authentication
type can be given access to any area of Project Server, Project Web
Access, or Project Professional. However, Windows authentication is
required for the following enterprise features:
- Portfolio Analyzer Portfolio Analyzer
requires Windows authentication because it uses SQL Server
2000 Analysis Services.
- Windows SharePoint Services Documents, Issues, and Risks Windows SharePoint Services requires
Windows authentication in order for users to be able to access the
Documents, Issues, Risks pages of Project Web Access. Users who
have accounts that use Project Server authentication might be able
to access these pages, depending on the configuration; however,
only Windows authenticated users are able to use every feature in
these areas.
- Membership in the Enterprise Resource Pool Windows authentication is required in
order for a user to use Active Directory to add resources to the
Enterprise Resource Pool.
- Synchronization of security groups or the Enterprise Resource Pool with Active Directory Active
Directory requires Windows authentication.
Users can be added in Project Web Access in the following
ways:
- A Project Server administrator can add users one at a time in
Project Web Access in the Manage Users and Groups section of
the Admin page.
- Active Directory and Project Server 2003 can be configured
to synchronize the Enterprise Resource Pool with an Active
Directory security group.
