You can use Project Professional to associate resources, tasks,
assignments, and projects with an Enterprise Calendar by doing any
of the following.
- Assigning an Enterprise Calendar when saving a project to Project Server 2003
- Assigning an Enterprise Calendar to a resource when working in Project Professional
- Assigning an Enterprise Calendar to a task when working in Project Professional
- Using the Import Projects Wizard to specify an Enterprise Calendar
- Using the Import Resources Wizard to specify an Enterprise Calendar
Assigning an Enterprise Calendar When Saving a Project to the Project Server Database
Every time you save a new project to Project Server 2003,
you must associate that project with an Enterprise Calendar. The
default calendar is the Standard Enterprise Calendar.
To assign an Enterprise Calendar when saving a project to the Project Server database
- Open Project Professional as a user connected to Project Server 2003.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- In the Save to Project Server dialog box, enter a value for Name, select Project from the Type list,
select Published from the Version list, and then select an Enterprise Calendar from the Calendar list.

- click Save.
Assigning an Enterprise Calendar to a Resource
Enterprise resources are maintained in the Enterprise Resource
Pool, which is a special project saved in the Project Server
database. Only users who are assigned the Edit Enterprise Resource Data permission in Project Server 2003 can check
out the Enterprise Resource Pool. The Enterprise Resource Pool can
only be edited in Project Professional. All new resources that are
added to the Enterprise Resource Pool must be associated with an
Enterprise Calendar. By default, new resources are associated with
the Standard Enterprise Calendar.
Note If you change the
Enterprise Calendar that is associated with a resource after it has
been saved (published) to Project Server, it might result in
changed allocations in the project schedule for that resource the
next time you publish that project to Project Server.
To assign an Enterprise Calendar to a resource
- Open Project Professional as a user connected to Project Server 2003 and check out the Enterprise Resource Pool.
- On the View menu, select Resource Sheet.

- Select a resource, and then double-click the resource row.
– Or –
On the Project menu, select Resource Information.
- In the Resource Information dialog box, select the Working Time tab, and choose an Enterprise Calendar from the
Base calendar drop-down list.

- click OK.
Note You can make exceptions
to the Enterprise Calendar by editing the working times.
Assigning an Enterprise Calendar to a Task
You can assign Enterprise Calendars at the task level within
enterprise projects.
To assign an Enterprise Calendar to a task
- Open Project Professional as a user connected to Project Server 2003.
- On the View menu, select Task Usage.

- Select a task within the project, and then double-click the
task row.
– Or –
On the Project menu, select Task Information.
- In the Task Information dialog box, on the Advanced tab, select the Enterprise Calendar from the
Calendar drop-down list.

- click OK.
Note Avoid conflicts
between the Enterprise Calendar that is associated with a task and
the Enterprise Calendar that is associated with the resource
assigned to the task. The Enterprise Calendar that is associated
with a task takes precedence over the Enterprise Calendar that is
associated with a resource. For example, if the Enterprise Calendar
that is associated with the task defines a day shift and the
Enterprise Calendar that is associated with the resource defines a
night shift, then the task will be scheduled for daytime hours,
according to the task calendar.
Using the Import Projects Wizard to Specify an Enterprise Calendar
When you use the Import Projects Wizard to import projects that
have both Enterprise Calendars and local calendars to Project
Server 2003, you must associate these projects with an
existing Enterprise Calendar. Note that associating an existing
project with a new calendar might result in the application of a
different schedule to the project.
Note The following
procedure describes how to use the Import Projects Wizard to
associate projects with Enterprise Calendars. It does not provide
complete information about how to use the Import Projects
Wizard.
To use the Import Projects Wizard to associate projects with an Enterprise Calendar
- Open Project Professional and connect to Project Server 2003.
- On the Tools menu, point to Enterprise Options, and then select Import Project to Enterprise to open the
Import Projects Wizard.

for Name, Version, and Type, and then select the Enterprise Calendar for the project from the
Calendar drop-down list.

is not already associated with one.

- click Import. When the import is complete, click Finish to close the Import Projects Wizard.
- When you are ready to complete the import process, on the
