After creating outline codes (outline codes: Custom tags you define for tasks or resources that allow you to show a hierarchy of the tasks in your project that is different from WBS codes or outline numbers. You can create up to 10 sets of custom outline codes in your project.), you can assign them to your tasks or resources.
- On the View menu, click the sheet (sheet: A spreadsheet-like representation [in rows and columns] of task or resource information. Each row specifies an individual task or resource. Each column [field] specifies a type of information, such as start dates or standard rates.) view, such as the Task Sheet or Resource Sheet view.
To use a view that is not on the View menu, click More Views, click the view you want to use in the Views list, and then click Apply.
- To insert the outline code field, select the field to the right of where you want to insert it.
If the outline code field is already displayed, continue with step 7.
- On the Insert menu, click Column.
- In the Field name box, click the name of the outline code field you defined.
For example, click Outline Code1; or, if you renamed the outline code to "Cost Code," click Cost Code (Outline Code1).
- To align the title, click Left, Center, or Right in the Align title box.
To align the outline number, click Left, Center, or Right in the Align data box.
To size the width of the column to the title, type or select a width for the outline code in the Width box, or click Best Fit.
- Click OK.
- In the outline code field for the task or resource, type or select an outline code.
Repeat this step for each task or resource.
Note To more efficiently enter outline codes, you can create a lookup table from which to choose the various outline codes you have defined.
